Apple Glasses: New Patent on Their Connection Between Devices

Again a patent registered by Apple sheds some light on its possible augmented reality (AR) glasses. Several days ago we saw some related to virtual reality (VR). We remember that the company works today on both projects as differentiated devices, although there is still no official information that allows us to know too much about them. The latest known document describes how AR Apple Glass would interact with each other.

Apple Glasses: New Patent

Among the dozens of documents registered today by Apple in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, one stands out entitled “Simultaneous Location and Mapping of Multiple Users (SLAM)”, which you can read in full by clicking here . Already in the description we can find that reference is made to a system that could be included in some hypothetical AR glasses from the Californian company.

The glasses would require a mapping of the environment that allows knowing the objects that are around in order to provide a better user experience, whatever it may be. This could be achieved through specialized sensors such as LiDARs, which we have already seen in equipment such as the latest Apple iPad Pro. The curious thing about what the patent describes in this sense is that the Apple Glass would have a connection in the background between them with the benefit that they will be able to perform a better mapping.

Several aspects are explained at a technical level in the patent, but in short, it is a system in which the glasses can be connected to each other without the need for the user to do anything and without the user being aware, without this also suppose a security or privacy problem of the same. By joining several glasses, the mapping of a certain place can be improved. For a house or little crowded place this makes little sense, but for large cities or places where many people usually go, it can be beneficial, since if several users come with this accessory they will be able to connect with each other.

No news of its launch

As we said at the beginning, there are several glasses projects in which Apple Park engineers would be involved. At the beginning of this year there was even talk that the company had canceled one of the projects, but numerous patents like these are a good example that this is not the case. It could be reminiscent in a way of the AirPower, the company’s multi-charging base that was announced in 2017, canceled in 2019 and again it seems that it could come out in 2020.

Apple Glasses render

The popular analyst Jon Proser made a forecast some time ago in which he gave juicy information about one of these glasses from the block. At that time I was aiming for next year, a date that can still square if development continues to be completed and if the COVID-19 pandemic does not continue to cause changes in plans. In any case, it seems too early to know exactly when in 2021 they might be launched. Will it be announced before in any way? We will have to remain attentive to possible events that the company is going to hold in the coming months.
