We all want to install the best antivirus on our computer to be protected from viruses, Trojans and all kinds of security threats. But on the web we can find a wide variety of options to choose from, from Windows 10 antivirus itself to other more or less known brands. Although we can find different antivirus security tests on the web, knowing that they are reliable and have not been altered is quite complicated. Therefore, leaving security tests aside, we are going to see, thanks to AV-Comparatives, which are the security programs that people trust the most.
2020 has been a very difficult year when it comes to viruses, both in the real world and in the virtual world. Teleworking and the rise in the general use of computers caused hackers to increase their activity considerably. And, therefore, relying on a good antivirus was essential if we wanted to avoid problems.
Thus, at the end of 2020, the AV-Comparatives platform opened a survey in which users who wanted to could share what their antivirus was in order to know which firms users trust the most. After two weeks of survey, and more than 2000 samples collected, the platform has been checking and writing down the responses until, today, we can know the results.

What is the most used antivirus?
AV Comparatives has divided the test results into continents. In this way we can know which are people’s favorite antivirus depending on where they live. In Europe , the favorite by users is Kaspersky , one of the best known, followed by the popular Bitdefender . Interestingly, Microsoft‘s antivirus, Windows Defender , ranks third despite being installed by default on all computers.
The rest of the security programs used in our continent are:

In North America things change a bit. Bitdefender is the most used antivirus in the United States, followed by ESET and Kaspersky. Windows Defender ranks fourth as the most used antivirus, which means that people in your country don’t trust Microsoft enough. Curiously, among the 10 most used on this continent we can find Malwarebytes and AVG , which is not the case in Europe.
Asia does trust Microsoft, and Windows Defender ranks second as the most widely used security software, preceded by Kaspersky. In this continent, AhnLab and K7 stand out in the top-10, two antivirus programs that we are not used to seeing in our country.
And last but not least, we come to South America. The top-3 of the antivirus used in this area is very similar to that of Europe, with Bitdefender, Kaspersky and Windows Defender in these three positions. In addition, the trust of these users in Panda , as well as in Trend Micro and malwarebytes, is striking.
Other data of interest
Within the professional field, Kaspersky, Bitdefender and Windows Defender with the most used security products, which companies trust the most. And, of course, Windows 10 is the most used operating system, followed by macOS , which has seen a slight increase.
Of all the users who have participated in the survey, about 85% of them are satisfied or very satisfied with their security software. And it is curious to note how only 9% of users bet on the auto-renewal of the antivirus license, while the rest do not activate it or prefer to have it controlled and renew by hand when it expires.
