Private Wi-Fi connectivity is something that should always be safe. However, there will always be people who will try to violate security to connect to our network. This is very common and happens every day. Luckily, we will be able to identify and block these possible intrusions from our Android mobile.
There are many people who no longer turn on their computer, therefore, Wi-Fi connectivity at home is done entirely through connected phones or tablets. Virtually all private Wi-Fi networks are visible for their existence, leaving the door open to possible intrusion attempts. If we suspect that Wi-Fi may have been stolen, it is because we begin to have indications that something is wrong.
How to know if our Wi-Fi has been stolen?
The signs
There are two clear indications that can make us suspect that our Wi-Fi may have been stolen. The first of these is a clear decrease in network speed and performance. If this occurs, it is because the bandwidth is being shared with another device, which is possibly limiting our download or upload capacity.
The second indicative, has to do with cuts in the connection, whether they are more or less continuous interruptions. Also, in the worst case, we may find ourselves outside of our network. In other words, the hacker could have accessed our router and changed the Wi-Fi password , making it impossible for us to contact us.
Get out of doubts
The best method is to use some software specially created for this purpose. In Android there are dozens of good applications to know if there are unwanted devices connected to our Wi-Fi. One of the best is Fing, which can be downloaded for free from Google Play.
Once downloaded, the app will perform a complete scan of all the devices connected to our network. We should not be scared, since it is possible that although we do not recognize someone’s name, they belong to our home. We must stop to think and analyze one by one to identify, tablets, SmartTV or even other connected smart phones or devices.
Block the intruder
In the case of identifying an unwanted connection, that is, a device that has been connected to our Wi-Fi without permission, we can immediately eject it. For this we select the intruder and go down to the options below where we can block the connection.
Change Password
The next step will be to go to the options of our router to change the password of our Wi-Fi network instantly. Although the data changes depending on the router and operator , we will have to type http://192.168.1.1 in our browser. Then we will enter the username and password (1234 and 1234, admin and admin, admin and 1234 …) If we do not remember it we will have to call our operator to help us retrieve it or look at the back of the router.
Then we will have to enter the Wi-Fi network settings and go to the password section. Once done, we save the changes and restart the router. After having secured our connection, it is advisable to check from time to time that the intruder has not been able to enter again.
