Amazon’s GameOn, a New Platform to Share Video Games

Amazon has just pulled out of its sleeve a new platform focused on the gaming world, its name is GameOn and the basis is none other than offering a place where you can share the best moments of your video games. Of course, the kind you play on mobile devices.

Amazon “reinvents” screen recording

Gameon

If Amazon has something clear, it is that the world of video games is currently one of the most important sectors and that moves the most public and money. For this reason, and knowing that they already have a lot of experience accumulated thanks to Twitch, Jeff Bezos’ company recently presented Luna and now they surprise us with GameOn.

GameOn is a new platform that as such does not reinvent anything. Even so, it can have a great impact within the company itself and in the face of the arrival of proposals such as the aforementioned Luna. But let’s first know what it is about or what it offers rather.

The basis of this new application, available for now only for Android devices although it is expected that it will also soon reach Apple terminals, is none other than allowing us to record the games we play on a mobile device . Exactly, this is nothing new, there are already many apps that allow it and that, for example, we have seen integrated as standard in devices with a gaming profile.

As you can see in the video above, GameOn allows you to choose from a wide variety of titles when it starts up. Once done, a small Start button appears on the screen , which is the one that allows you to start recording it. A process that for now must be said is manual, although it would have been great if it was constant, even if it only saved the last five minutes later. Which is, after all, the maximum duration that it will allow when sharing these clips on GameOn.

Because that’s why this is a platform and not just another application. GameOn offers an infrastructure as a social network that allows you to store all your video clips so that you can later share them with the other users of the platform or through a link on other social networks. Although it is not the only thing, another of the curiosities is that you can add subtitles and even a selfie type recording so that as a commentator you can add what you think is appropriate about what your viewers are watching.

There are many options and it is only a matter of seeing how to take advantage of them. What it does is that, to give it a little more life, GameOn will also have, along with that social touch, a series of weekly challenges to encourage users to share their best games, voting system, visits, etc. You know, those metrics that sometimes so much like for the simple fact of satisfying the user’s ego.

GameOn, a complement designed for Luna?

As we said at the beginning, the new platform to share video clips of your mobile games is nothing new. Well, it may be the fact that they offer the infrastructure to upload and store the clips, but we have already seen the rest in many other gaming phones.

Therefore, what is the point of launching a proposal of this type in the middle of 2020? Well, everyone here will have their own opinion on this, but it seems clear that this will make a lot of sense when Luna arrives officially for everyone.

Amazon’s streaming gaming service is going to be perfectly integrated, so it will be very easy to share those games that you make through it with the rest of the users. So, as we see it, GameOn is a proposal to complement what will come with Luna. We will see if we are wrong or not as time goes by.
