Our mobiles have more and more wireless connections. One of the most important is NFC (Near Field Communication), which in these times favors that physical contact does not occur, for example when we are going to pay in a store. But the uses of NFC go far beyond bringing the mobile closer to validate a purchase.
Although not all mobiles have NFC, it is something that is present yes or yes in the current high-end range and in almost all premium mid-range devices of the main brands. There are users who no longer conceive their day to day without NFC, mainly due to the convenience of payments. But this near-field communication system serves much more.
With NFC we can carry out a data transfer at a distance of less than 20 centimeters. This short distance is what allows (always with its limitations) that this data exchange can be carried out safely and that it is not available to anyone who wants to intercept. NFC works by creating an electromagnetic field through induction, very similar to that of wireless chargers.
Alternative uses to NFC
Mobile payments are the most widespread uses of this technology. By simply entering our card details in a banking app, we can bring the mobile closer to the shops and the different payment terminals without having to remove the wallet.
Identification at an ATM
In many ATMs it is no longer necessary to take out the card to start operating. If we have the mobile phone unlocked and the NFC activated and recognized by our banking service, we can bring the mobile closer and the ATM reader will be in charge of giving us access to start operating with our accounts.
Share the Wi-Fi key
NFC can also be used to share the Wi-Fi key when family or friends come to your house and you don’t want to give the password so lightly. The NFC can be activated as a bridge, although we will need the help of an app such as NFC Wi-Fi Writer.
Transfer multimedia content
It is not the best or the fastest method, but the NFC allows you to transfer files from one mobile to another, as long as both have an NFC chip. As we said, the transfer speed is not very high and requires that both terminals are practically touching so as not to switch the connection.
Access the car
There are already many car models that allow it to be opened by NFC just by bringing the phone closer to the door or in the specific area where the receiver is located.
Sync devices
If our mobile has NFC and a gadget too, we can make the link between both very quickly . This happens with some Bluetooth headphones or smart watches.
Identify yourself at events or congresses
The NFC can be used for access at concerts or conferences . For many years now, the Mobile Word Congress in Barcelona has had special access only for those who pass through the identification using NFC.
