The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ and PG48UQ are the large gaming monitors behind this article’s original “most beastly” headline. They launched in 2022. They are not newly announced, and the headline is not a current ranking of the world’s most expensive monitors.
What these ASUS OLED monitors offer
| Feature | PG42UQ | PG48UQ |
|---|---|---|
| Panel size | 41.5 inches, sold as a 42-inch model | 47.53 inches, sold as a 48-inch model |
| Panel and resolution | WOLED, 3840 × 2160 | WOLED, 3840 × 2160 |
| Maximum refresh rate | 138Hz, overclocked | 138Hz, overclocked |
| Video inputs | 2 × HDMI 2.1, 2 × HDMI 2.0, 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 DSC | 2 × HDMI 2.1, 2 × HDMI 2.0, 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 DSC |
| Other features | Anti-glare surface, HDR10 and speakers | Anti-glare surface, HDR10 and speakers |
Check ASUS’s current PG42UQ specifications and PG48UQ specifications for the exact model. The manufacturer rates pixel response at 0.1ms GTG; that is not a measurement of total input lag.
Choose the right connection and desk space
Use HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort for the higher refresh modes. ASUS lists the HDMI 2.0 inputs up to 60Hz at this signal range, so plugging into any HDMI port does not give the same result. The PC or console, cable and chosen resolution must support the mode too.
Both monitors are large enough that desk depth and viewing comfort matter. Measure the available space and try a similar screen size if possible. There is no single viewing distance that suits every desk, and the old claim that sitting closer than 1.5 metres damages eyesight was not supported.
Are they still worth buying?
They can suit someone who wants a large 4K OLED screen for games and video. Compare current local stock, warranty, burn-in coverage and newer alternatives before paying. A 2022 preorder price is not a current offer, so it has been removed.
For long sessions with static desktop panels, check the monitor’s OLED-care settings and warranty terms. Text appearance, brightness behaviour and room reflections also deserve a look in person. This is a focused specification refresh, rather than a new hands-on review.
Common questions
Is this the most expensive gaming monitor?
This article does not establish that ranking. It covers two specific ASUS models; current price and availability depend on the seller and country.
Do both models have the same sharpness?
Both use 3840 × 2160 pixels, spread over different screen sizes. The larger model has lower pixel density, so choose the size with your viewing distance in mind.
