Office 2010 and 2013 Downloads: What Is Still Available?

Working on documents on a laptop

Looking for MS Word 2010, Microsoft Office 2010 or Word 2013? Microsoft no longer offers the Office 2010 download, and both Office 2010 and 2013 are out of support. If you already own an old copy, check your license, original installer and purchase account. If you only need to open a document, you may not need that old version at all.

You may also be able to open the document with a supported Office version or the free browser apps. That is usually a simpler starting point than reinstalling old software.

MS Word 2010 or Word 2013: which download do you need?

Word is the word-processing app. Office is the package that can include Word, Excel and other apps. Check what you bought before choosing a setup file: a standalone Word license and an Office suite license are not interchangeable.

What you need Where to start
Reinstall Word 2010 or Office 2010 you already own Your original disc or saved installer and license records. Microsoft no longer supplies the Office 2010 website download.
Reinstall Word 2013 or Office 2013 The original purchase account and installation records. Availability depends on your product; don’t assume every old license has a download button.
Open a Word document without buying an old version Try Word for the web or the supported Office app you already use.

A document made in Word 2010 does not automatically require Word 2010 to open. Try a copy in your current app, then check its layout and any macros or add-ins.

Which older Office versions are still supported?

Version Support position What to do now
Office 2010 Support ended in October 2020. Microsoft says its download is no longer available. Look for your original installation media and license only if you have a specific legacy need; consider a supported replacement.
Office 2013 Support ended in April 2023. Check your existing account and original purchase records. Do not assume a new official download is available for every license.
Office 2016 and Office 2019 Support ended in October 2025. Microsoft documents account-based reinstallation for eligible purchases, but installation does not restore security support.
Office 2021 and Office LTSC 2021 Support ended in October 2026. Do not choose Office 2021 as a supported replacement for Office 2010 or 2013. Check a newer product and its requirements.
Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 Current alternatives for supported use, subject to their system requirements and licensing. Use the installation instructions for the product you actually own.

See Microsoft’s Office 2010 support notice and upgrade guidance for older Office versions for the current support position.

Office 2021 has also reached the end of support. Microsoft’s Office 2021 lifecycle page and Office LTSC 2021 notice confirm that these releases reached the end of support in October 2026. A reinstall does not restart security updates.

Check your license before looking for a download

  1. Find the receipt, product-key card, installation disc or email from the original purchase.
  2. Sign in to Microsoft account services and subscriptions with the account used for that purchase. If you have several Microsoft accounts, check the relevant one.
  3. Look for the Office product you own and an available installation option. Account availability depends on the version and license; a missing button is not proof that another download site can provide a valid replacement.
  4. If Office came through an employer, school, volume-license agreement or a PC manufacturer, use that organization’s installation process or contact its support team.

Microsoft’s reinstallation guide explains the account route and cases that use a different process. Follow the section for your product rather than choosing whichever installer appears first in a search.

What if you specifically need Office 2010?

The old product-key download page described in earlier versions of this article is no longer a reliable way to get Office 2010. Microsoft explicitly says that Office 2010 can no longer be downloaded from its website.

If you already own original installation media, keep a copy of it together with your license records. Before relying on a reinstall, check whether it can activate and whether the application you need works on your current PC. These are separate questions from simply finding the setup file.

Back up your documents before removing an existing installation. If an old add-in or business workflow requires Office 2010, ask the software supplier about a supported replacement instead of treating a successful installation as proof of ongoing support.

If you only need to open or edit a document

  • Try Microsoft 365 for the web: Microsoft’s free browser versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint may cover basic work without an old desktop installation.
  • Use the supported Office product you own: open a copy of the file and check formatting, formulas and macros before relying on the result.
  • Check specialist requirements: a document with old macros, add-ins or unusual formatting may need more care than a simple letter or spreadsheet.

A product key for an older Office release does not automatically license the latest release. Likewise, a file labelled “Office installer” is not evidence that it is genuine, licensed or suitable for your computer.

Office 2010 free download for Windows 10 or 11: what is available?

Microsoft no longer offers the Office 2010 download described by the old product-key page. If you already own it, start with your original media and licence records; changing to Windows 10 or Windows 11 does not make Office 2010 a supported product. If you just need Word, Excel or PowerPoint for basic work, try Microsoft’s free web apps instead.

If you are comparing newer desktop options, our Office 2024 and LTSC installation guide explains how home purchases differ from workplace volume licenses.

Before you install anything

Check your exact Office version, where the licence came from, the account used to buy or redeem it, and your Windows version. Download from Microsoft or follow your work or school’s installation instructions. If that option isn’t available, sort out the licence or download problem with support before trying another installer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download Office 2010 for free on Windows 10 or 11?

Microsoft no longer provides an Office 2010 website download. An old installer does not give you a free desktop license. If you only need basic Word, Excel or PowerPoint features, start with the free web apps linked above.

Where can I find my Office 2013 installer?

Check the Microsoft account used for your purchase, your original installation media or your workplace installation service. The route depends on the license. A product key alone does not guarantee that a new download will be available, and Office 2013 remains out of support.

What about an Office 2010 32-bit or 64-bit installer?

Check the exact product and bit version before replacing an installation, especially if you depend on older add-ins. Microsoft’s version-identification guide explains where to find those details. A file labelled “offline setup,” “full version” or “free download” doesn’t prove you have a licence, that the file is genuine or that it works with your Windows version.

Can I download Office 2011 for Windows?

Office for Mac 2011 is a Mac product, so it is not the installer to use on a Windows PC. Check the actual product name rather than treating a year in a filename as proof of an official Windows installer. Microsoft’s Office for Mac 2011 listing identifies that product as a Mac release; it is not an Office 2011 installer for Windows 10 or 11. For searches labelled Office 2009 or Office 2012, compare the claimed product with your licence records and Microsoft’s version information before using the file.

Is there a free full version of Word 2010?

An old installer does not include a free license. A “free download” label also doesn’t tell you whether a setup file is genuine or will activate. For basic writing without an old desktop license, use the free Word web app linked above.

Do I need Word 2010 to open a document made with it?

Usually, you can try the document in a current Word app or Word for the web. Work on a copy and check the layout. Old macros and add-ins may need a separate compatibility check.

What if my Microsoft account has no Install button?

Confirm the purchase account and exact product, then check the original receipt and installation media. Workplace and school licences can use another installation service. A missing button does not establish that an unrelated download site can supply your licensed copy; use the support route for the product you own.
