Choose AIMP plugins for a feature you need rather than installing a bundle. Start with the player’s built-in functions, then add a plugin only for a feature you actually need. An old add-on may duplicate a newer feature or be incompatible with your installed version.

Which AIMP plugin features do you need?
| Function | Useful when | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Windows media controls | You want keyboard or system-level playback controls. | Whether your current AIMP version already handles the required controls. |
| Track information display | You want a separate display of the current title and artist. | Skin options, display behavior and plugin compatibility. |
| Last.fm integration | You want listening-history or related account features. | Which functions the integration supports and how authorization works. |
| Additional format support | A particular audio file does not play. | Whether the current player already supports that format. |
| Online-source integration | You need a supported connection to an online service. | Current maintenance, service changes and the specific permitted feature. |
| Lyrics display | You want synchronized words while a track plays. | Embedded lyrics or local .lrc files, matching and the add-on’s supported AIMP version. |
| Equalizer or DSP processing | You need a particular sound-processing feature. | The player’s existing sound settings and the external processor’s compatibility. |
Use the current catalogue
Open the official AIMP plugin catalogue and read the individual entry. Compare its supported AIMP version and architecture with your installation. Download from the listed project source and follow its instructions; Windows and Android add-ons are not interchangeable.
The AIMP site also provides current downloads and change logs. A recommendation written for an older AIMP release may no longer describe today’s player.
Lyrics plugins and sound effects: check the source and requirements
The official catalogue currently includes Local Lyrics Desktop Display, which can display synchronized lyrics from embedded data or local .lrc files. Read its entry for the supported AIMP version and Windows architecture before installing. A local lyric-display plugin does not establish that words will be downloaded for every song.
For an equalizer or DSP plugin, identify the adjustment you need and compare it with AIMP’s existing sound controls. An effect changes playback; it does not recover detail missing from the original recording. Check the developer’s installation and removal instructions, then test one familiar track.
Avoid two common misunderstandings
Last.fm integration does not automatically mean access to an unlimited music-download catalogue. Check whether the feature concerns scrobbling, account actions or metadata. Similarly, adding an AC3 decoder provides format support; it does not automatically improve the quality of every audio file or recreate a Dolby speaker setup.
Install and test one change at a time
- Note the current AIMP version and save important settings.
- Check the add-on’s requirements and instructions.
- Install only that add-on and restart the player if required.
- Test a known working local track.
- If playback becomes unstable, disable the new add-on and compare again.
