In many of the PCs around the world, among the programs that can be considered as essential, we find a text editor. These are basic when opening or creating text documents that we can later use in all kinds of tasks. For this we can use Microsoft Word, WordPad or LibreOffice Writer.
It is true that probably the best known proposal of this type around the world is the one included in Office, the aforementioned Word . However, as many of you already know, it is not the only one. We can opt for proposals that are somewhat more complex and complete than others, or for suites that include several of them. There are also some of these proposals that are paid, while others are free.
But with everything and with it, despite the many options available, both Word that integrates Office, and LibreOffice‘s Writer, are the most popular. It is evident that the first and one of the main differences that we find here, refers to its cost. And is that while the Redmond suite is paid, LibreOffice can be downloaded for free.
In fact, for most users, and even more so after the most recent updates, what Write offers is more than enough. In this way we can save the cost of Word when acquiring the Microsoft suite. And we must bear in mind that this free program does not stop improving based on new updates it receives. That is why in these same lines we are going to talk about some functionalities that Writer already has and why it has nothing to envy to Word.
Microsoft Word and Writer Common Features
As you can imagine and it could not be otherwise, the basic functions of any text editor are common in both proposals. That is why here we will focus on some somewhat more advanced features. For example, at the moment LibreOffice Writer, as with Word 2019, has a tool to draw freehand.
On the one hand, it is worth mentioning that in Word we have to activate this function in the program’s toolbar. At the same time LibreOffice also has its own drawing tool. This will allow us to create freehand drawings , add graphics, legends and all kinds of images directly to text documents. In addition, it is also worth knowing that Writer, as in Word, allows us to carry out calculations on the documents we create.
In this way, what we can do with all this is make use of an integrated calculation function . This allows us to execute calculation functions through a table that we create in it. We can achieve all this quickly and easily.
And to finish we are going to highlight the enormous customization capabilities that the LibreOffice proposal interface has. As with Office, this editor allows us to adapt the menus and controls of the interface to the maximum. This can be very useful to us when it comes to being more productive with the program.
