16″ MacBook Pro Update: New AMD Radeon Pro 5600

In a very discreet way, Apple has updated the 16 ″ MacBook Pro a few months after its launch. This is very good news for professionals, as new hardware customization options have been added, although they are not cheap at all. In this article we tell you about all these improvements that have been included in this new review.

New GPU and SSD for the 16 ″ MacBook Pro

Until now, when you were going to customize a new MacBook Pro, you could choose between two different graphics cards. These are the AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory and the AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. These two customization options remain, but the possibility of mounting a better graphic is added. Specifically we talk about the new AMD Radeon Pro 5600 with 8 GB of HBM2 memory.

The main difference seen in the graphics nomenclature is that it goes from a GDDR6 memory to HBM2. This is an important difference, since this new memory assembles a 3D stacked layer structure to achieve up to 4 shades per pillar. This saves space for the PCB, and although it has a much more complex design, it offers much more performance since it offers a greater total bandwidth, which translates into a higher speed.

But obviously this much more complex and powerful memory carries a fairly high price. If you want to configure your new MacBook Pro with this AMD graphic, you will have to pay a difference of € 875 . In exchange for this you will have a much better performance that is especially focused on performing video and photo editing tasks at the highest level. Obviously it is not intended for the entire public since the price difference is quite remarkable and the benefits it offers cannot be used by all users.

Apple has also thought of those users with a Mac Pro who see somewhat insufficient capacity on their SSD. If in your case you are in the position of having installed a 1 TB SSD but you actually require 4 TB, now you can make this change. This will be possible thanks to a new SSD upgrade kit for Mac Pro that Apple has released to be able to upgrade the capacity of the SSD as required. The problem is that you will need to send the Mac to the Apple service to make this change, paying the difference.

Apple does not leave its users lying

With this type of movement we see how Apple does not forget its Mac users. Although it is not a great update, it is received with open arms that give more customization options. It is true that this is a very well thought-out update for professional users, and although there are few that give it the deserved importance, it should be viewed positively. As far as the Mac Pro is concerned, it stands to reason that they want to give these customization options on a computer that requires regular updating.
