Xiaomi Redmi Now 9 Pro Analysis: Tests and Opinion

In the mid-range is where, without a doubt, Xiaomi moves better. Despite its good work with devices such as the Mi 10 series, which seek to compete with the best of the best, it is in the range of 200 and 300 euros where it shines the most. For a few weeks I have tested the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro and what a surprise .

Xiaomi Redmi Now 9 Pro

No Risky Designs

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9 Pro is one of those devices that does not risk aesthetically nor is it expected to . All you have to do is cover that minimum to which many brands in general and Xiaomi in particular have already accustomed us. Therefore, what you find here is a device of generous dimensions and 209 grams of weight, but still it is comfortable in hand. Unless you’re used to smaller phones, it won’t take long to get used to it.

Regarding material and finishes, well, more of the same. The glass back offers a good touch and without being very slippery, its only problem is none other than the now classic fingerprints. But how is it possible that you take it with the cover that it includes, which will protect it against possible falls or scratches, as a problem resulted.

Of the most nothing to highlight. They are somewhat generous, but in these price ranges they are usually the usual. Well, there is something that you are still interested in knowing. At the top you have an IR port with which, together with the remote control application, you can control your television among other devices. And already at the bottom, next to the speaker and USB C connector you find a 3.5mm Jack connector so you can use your wired headphones for a lifetime.

By the way, on the right side is the fingerprint reader integrated into the same power button. Its operation is fast and precise. You have to get used to its position, but it is not annoying at all. Along with the facial recognition system, two quick and effective unlocking options.

No display at 90 Hz but solvent

Calidad panel Redmi Note 9 Pro

If you want to be competitive in price, you have to give up certain things. One of them in mid-range phones is the screen. Here Xiaomi is not going to give you a 90 Hz panel that is so fashionable now. However, its 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen is quite correct in almost all respects.

Both in terms of color, level of contrast or angles, the experience of use during these days has been satisfactory. Again, as happened with the Mi 10 Lite, a little more brightness would have been great in certain outdoor situations, but in general, it is enjoyed when using the system, viewing multimedia content or when taking pictures and record a video.

Of course, the only point that does not continue to attract my attention is the hole in the screen to house the front camera. The shadow it generates around it does not convince me. To some extent, even a drop-type notch as offered by its previous generation would convince me more, but this is a simple matter of personal taste and that is easy to solve once you get used to it.

In general, if we remove the brightness issue, the screen is more than correct and you can enjoy all kinds of content and games, because the answer is also adequate even in those titles where you have to react faster.

Enough power for everything

Keeping track of the different Qualcomm processors is becoming more and more complex, as was already happening with those from Intel or AMD. What makes the Snapdragon 765G different from the 720G and from previous models? Is not easy.

Therefore, I am not going to bombard you with technical data or benchmarks that are making less and less sense. As much as there are those who like this topic of comparing numbers. Here I am going to talk about sensations and real experience in the day to day.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro mounts a Snapdragon 720G and the only thing you need to know is that for day-to-day tasks it is more than enough . The operating system and most applications will run smoothly. I say the majority because there will be specific apps that due to their greater demand will delay their execution compared to the times that the latest from Qualcomm, the 865, could offer.

This difference is mainly due to the difference in graphics power. Here the 765G would have given it an extra point, but we would already talk about another terminal and another price. Therefore, my user experience has been good and I was able to do everything I wanted at all times. Sometimes with a little more patience, but without any real problem such as crashes, exaggerated slowness, etc.

Logically, this performance is helped by its 6GB of RAM and UFS 2.1 storage , which without being the fastest allows loading times fast enough not to appreciate any bad experience.

If to this we add the multiple options of the MIUI and the optimization work done by Xiaomi itself, you have to be very demanding so that this phone does not meet your day-to-day needs. And if that happens, then what you should not have done is buy this option.

Sound, better with headphones

If the Redmi Note 9 Pro is not going to make you fall in love for something, it’s because of the sound . Your speaker rings, but nothing else. I’m not saying that they do it badly at all, you have to go up a lot so that it starts to distort, but it is true that it is not a sound with a lot of body and nuances.

That’s why I say that if you want to enjoy multimedia content, from series, movies to music, podcasts or video games, you will have to opt for headphones. Here the advantage is that you can use wireless or wired models. You say. And as with the screen, MIUI’s sound customization options will allow you to have a little more control and customization over how they will sound.

Surprises with their cameras

In the same way that happened to me with the Mi 10 Lite, the Redmi Note 9 Pro offers five cameras . A main camera module composed of four sensors plus one for the front 16 MP that beyond the striking to say that it offers five cameras, three are really important. Although you could perfectly stay with only two, the front 16 MP and the rear 64 MP.

The front camera performs well in terms of selfies, also in video, although in both cases I still think that Xiaomi’s processing lacks sharpness. Or it will be me who am used to another type of look that attracts me more. Still, it is a camera that behaves quite well even when the light is somewhat dimmer. It is true that the colors are somewhat more paste and with a slight watercolor effect, but there are much more expensive proposals that behave the same and that has more crime.

Anyway, it is the main camera that will interest the most and here, be careful with the camera of the Redmi Note 9 Pro. I assume that it is a mid-range terminal and one of the cheapest, it costs about 250 euros . Therefore, with that price and remove the issue of having too many sensors as I mentioned before, I liked the performance of this device.

Both in good light and when we are in front of somewhat more complex scenes, the main 64 MP sensor is capable of obtaining quite attractive photos. Good in exposure, color rendering and sharpness. What’s more, we can even do a 2X zoom by playing with the cutout of the sensor itself.

There are times where it logically fails, but a large percentage of users will be more than satisfied with a terminal that is capable of giving a lot of play in photos of all kinds. And if, in addition, you add a bit of later editing, you not only save those more complex shots by hiding possible failures such as greater noise or lack of detail, you also make those that are technically better more attractive.

I said, if you obvious how striking it is to say that you have a phone with five cameras, the truth is that the Remi Note 9 Pro includes two sensors that convince and makes it a fairly solid proposal for those looking for a capable terminal in photographic terms ( with its own limitations for a matter of price) without having to invest 500 or 1,000 euros that are requested for high-end phones.

Regarding the video, it complies, but it does not convince me at all. Here’s why I admit that I have never managed to find an Android phone capable of capturing video like virtually any iPhone on the market, including the 2020 iPhone SE.

Redmi Note 9 Pro, an easy phone to recommend

When I tried the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite, which was already beginning to see its first offers, I thought that this would be the phone over 200 and 300 euros that I was going to recommend without fear of regret. Now that I have tried this Redmi Note 9 Pro I have to say that it is not so easy anymore.

Because the Mi 10 Lite may be higher in some sections, but this Redmi Note 9 Pro is not far behind and can also be found at a very good price. Therefore, logically it is a decision that you will have to make if you are more interested in one or the other for some specific reason, but I can tell you that if you bet on it you will not regret it.

In addition, they are not compliant with everything mentioned above, also in the following sections:

  • Loose battery to withstand a day and a half of use quietly and even two. It is undoubtedly one of its great characteristics although it does not get much hype
  • Screen offers good size and adequate resolution to view multimedia content, video games and texts to read through the web or social media applications
  • By power you will not have a problem and it will be more than enough for everyday uses and tasks.
  • The cameras and you’ve seen it
  • Both the fingerprint reader placed on one side and the easy recognition are very convenient and effective unlocking solutions

Therefore, I admit that yes, I really liked the Redmi Note 9 Pro. For what it costs at the moment of publication of the analysis, 249 euros , it is one of the most attractive devices in its price range.
