Xiaomi has a new electronic book reader that aims to be much more than a simple ebook, such as the Kindle and its main alternatives on the market. For this, it not only introduces interesting features as a reader, but also the possibility of installing apps from Google Play.

Xiaomi’s foray into the electronic book sector is not new, although it is true that they have never had much impact compared to their smartphones or other electronic devices.
This is possibly due to how difficult it is to fight against Amazon and its Kindle, which for many are directly synonymous with e-book reader. Even so, with this new model they do have the odd Ace under the magna that could give them an advantage.
To begin with, the Xiaomi Mi Ebook Reader Pro is an electronic book reader with a screen with a diagonal greater than the usual 6 inches proposed by most current readers. In this case we have 7.8 inches of diagonal that offer some advantages despite this slight increase in the overall size of the device.
The first advantage of those additional 1.8 inches is that we will not only have a larger device, which may like more or less depending on each one, but also a higher screen resolution and that is appreciated both for reading and for another thing that we will tell you later.
In this way, with 1872 x 1404 pixels of resolution and a backlighting system with 24 levels , Xiaomi’s proposal is able to perfectly adapt to the visual needs of any user in practically any situation.
Of course, as we said, one of its main attractions is not any of this but its operating system. This Xiaomi eBook is based on Android and that means that you can install any application from Google Play. Do you want Twitter, Instagram, Pocket or even a game? Well go ahead.
Logically there are a large number of Android applications that do not make sense to want to install them on such a device. Because the experience of using an electronic ink screen is not even remotely similar to that of an LCD or OLED screen, but everything related to reading news and even text (reading, annotations, etc.) is. they could have their point of interest.
However, that is something that everyone will have to value. Because if reading is going to be something more secondary, better to use a tablet that also acts as a reader. And if you only want one reader, the fewer complications the better. But that as each one decides. Of course, not everything was going to be good news. The downside of this new Xiaomi Mi Ebook Reader Pro is that at the moment it will only be available in China and it will do so from next December 21.
That means that unless you buy it from import, if you want one you will have to wait for Xiaomi to decide or not to sell it globally. And hopefully that happens soon, because with a price that would be around 170 euros at the exchange rate, it would be a great rival for the Amazon Kindle.
