Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker 2: New Smart Speaker for the Connected Home

Xiaomi launched a new smart speaker, the Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker 2 . This new version for the moment will only be available in China and we do not know if it will leave the country to reach other international markets. Something that would not be bad at all for its possible price of about 30 euros to change and that makes you wonder why this type of Xiaomi products does not move them more.

A loudspeaker that aspires to be the control center of the home

The device you are seeing in the images is the new Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker 2 , a smart speaker that comes to join the ranks of the Xiaomi smart devices catalog. Even so, despite the different models that have been launched over the years and after seeing this model, why is it not as successful as with other products? Before answering you, let’s see what this proposal offers.

Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker 2

At the design level, the new Xiaomi speaker maintains the line seen in other products or directly in its previous generation. A device with a perforated base where the sound is let out and a white finish that makes it an eye-catching product and one of those that look good in practically any type of environment. What’s more, doesn’t it remind you a bit of the company’s own purifier?

Of course, beyond the design, something Xiaomi has already shown that it knows how to work very well in all aspects, is to know what it offers both in terms of quality and experience when it is used for that more intelligent section than it says it enjoys.

With a two-inch speaker, the sound is not going to be torture, but it is true that it will most likely not measure up to other existing solutions. Perhaps not even to those of those proposals that cost a little more like those of Amazon or Google itself. At least it is what we can get by looking at its technical sheet and price, which should keep it more or less close in performance to the Mi Smart Speaker that we tested.

Along with that speaker and moving on to the connectivity issue, the new Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker 2 has dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 . So the idea of Xiaomi mainly is that it be used as a control center for all the devices that it has in its catalog for the connected home and those compatible from other manufacturers. Which may be fine, but still seems not entirely convincing.

Why Xiaomi Smart Speakers Are Not Succeeding

Xiaomi devices in general not only tend to like, they are also the main choice of many users in almost all the categories they touch. Because they have already shown a good job in products that are not just mobile phones.

However, it seems that with the subject of smart speakers they do not find the point . We liked the Mi Smart Speaker that we tested and its quality was very good for the price. Even so, when opting for a smart speaker, most end up turning to Amazon or Google Nest Audio.

It is likely that beyond the Chinese market they are not pushing the product enough to make it known. And although it could be interesting to  also add support for Alexa,  the key would really be to take them to more countries and show them more. Surely some Mi Fan would be more interested in him than in the options of Google or the  Amazon Echo among others. At least if you are looking for a smart option and not so much a good sound system.
