WhatsApp Web Stops Working in Classic Edge Browser

Although WhatsApp users have been waiting for a PC client for a long time, independent of the mobile, it has not finished arriving. If we want to use the messaging client from the computer, it is necessary to do so through WhatsApp Web , a “bridge” between the mobile and the PC that, from the browser, allows us to send and receive messages, as long as the mobile is nearby. Using this messaging client from the PC is very fast and simple, as long as we use a web browser compatible with it.

In January of this year, Microsoft launched the new Edge for all users, a completely renewed browser for Windows 10 that, among other innovations, released a new engine, Chromium , to try to win over its rival (Google Chrome) using the same cards. .

WhatsApp Web Stops Working in Classic Edge Browser

Currently Microsoft has 3 different browsers . On the one hand, it has the new Edge Chromium, the browser that looks to the future. On the other hand, we have the classic Edge, launched alongside Windows 10 in 2015, and in third place the classic Internet Explorer. Two of these browsers (we obviously know which ones) are going to disappear very soon. And for this, more and more websites and platforms do not work on them. One of the last to be included in the list is WhatsApp.

WhatsApp: does not work in Edge or Internet Explorer

Since this weekend, users who have tried to use WhatsApp Web from the classic Edge browser, or from Internet Explorer , have found that this platform does not work in their browsers. For the classic Edge, Facebook has added a message asking users to install Edge Chromium version 80 (or higher) to use the service. Or, failing that, download the WhatsApp client for Windows 10.

If we try to visit the web with Internet Explorer , Windows 10 automatically redirects the page to open it with Edge. If we use the new Edge Chromium, we can use WhatsApp Web after accepting an informational message. On the contrary, if we still do not have this new browser installed, the web will open in the original Edge, and it will show us the previous error.

Thus, to use WhatsApp in Windows 10 we only have a few options. On the one hand we can install the official app of the program from the Microsoft Store , and on the other, use the web client from a modern browser, such as Chrome, Firefox or, as we have said, the new Edge.

2021: a year of change

Next year is going to be a year full of changes. To begin with, it will be the first year, at last, that we can live without Flash, this old technology that no longer contributes absolutely anything to web pages.

Microsoft is also going to make several changes to its entire application system, starting with its browsers. In addition to installing the new Edge to many of Windows 10 users, this will be the default browser in Windows 10 20H2, the October 2020 update of this browser. Users who have already updated to this version will have already found the new browser. And it is also impossible to block its installation.

Internet Explorer, on the other hand, will pass away in March 2021. Thereafter, Microsoft’s veteran browser will pass away, and it will no longer be possible (or recommended, of course) to continue browsing with it. When Microsoft ends the dependencies of this browser in Windows, it will finally even disappear.
