Vivo X80 Pro: a mobile with a new video camera

The cameras, because they ceased to be one for a long time, are for many one of the main points -or the most- when opting for this or that smartphone. If you are also a budding filmmaker, the Asian brand vivo has created the ideal terminal with its new vivo X80 Pro, the company’s new flagship, a product very focused on cinematographic video recording, from the processor to the lenses. Come and let’s take an in-depth look at it.

Vivo X80 Pro

In December 2020 , the companies vivo and ZEISS announced their partnership to bring “professional photographic standards to the world of smartphones”, with the X60 Pro terminal launched in 2021 being the first of this new collaboration. Through the innovative imaging laboratory of vivo and ZEISS (Imaging Lab) we learned about “Digital Twins”, a technique developed by ZEISS to design high-end cinema and photo lenses. Vivo‘s new lens designs are virtually modeled to accurately simulate and test their performance, ensuring that new camera systems can be quickly prototyped and refined. The result? What we have in the vivo X80 Pro terminal, vivo’s ‘flagship’ for 2022.

Redefining cinematography on mobile

Let’s jump right into the most important part of the X80 Pro before we look at the rest, arguably the highlight of its ambitious package. The terminal mounts a 32 megapixel front camera microperforated on the screen, meanwhile the main module of the rear camera consists of:

  • An ultra-sensitive 50 megapixel VNG main sensor, f/1.57 aperture with OIS
  • A Super Wide Angle of 48MP and 114º
  • A 12MP Portrait Lens with 50mm Gimbal Stabilization
  • An 8MP telephoto lens with up to 5x optical zoom and OIS

All lenses have also been manufactured with the ZEISS T*Coating process , an advanced solution that makes the glass surface of the lenses practically invisible.

Bokeh, Ultra, Night Video

With specifications clearly designed by and for recording video, vivo X80 Pro allows you to use different types of functions that are in turn supported by the vivo V1+ chip . The three most important and that will give your videos the most perfection are:

Super Night Video

With less motion blur and more ability to stabilize videos in low light conditions, the power and ability of Artificial Intelligence comes into play in the X80 Pro with AI video enhancement and its automatic algorithms, which will allow you to increase the professional video quality that the terminal is capable of achieving in difficult conditions in which the light is poor or there are people on the move. For example, you will be able to record an event on a stage that has a high light contrast, always obtaining a well-balanced video without any overexposure.

VideoUltra

Another element that helps improve the quality of the video you want to make, with Video Ultra we have a contribution of less motion blur and more ability to stabilize videos in low light conditions. Features like Pure Night Vision allow recording scenes in night conditions to have a more quality and filmic touch.

Cinematic Video Bokeh

The Bokeh effect, which adds a background blur to enhance foreground content, has become essential on smartphones. If we apply it to video, an immediate professional effect is achieved. The X80 Pro’s Cinematic Video Bokeh enables expressive portrait videos with shallow depth of field Bokeh to bring a bright, clear subject on screen against a blurred background.

When activated we have an oval blur effect in a cinematographic aspect ratio of 2.39:1, very similar to the classic 2.35:1 of Hollywood movies and that you can achieve just by recording with this function activated.

But do not think that live they have focused only on video recording, but that the quality of the photos that their quad camera is capable of obtaining is also enormous thanks to the ZEISS optics that they implement. The terminal has the ZEISS Portrait Camera, with Super Portrait mode with Gimbal Stabilizer to take night and sports photos with the same professional quality. For high-quality photos at night, Super Night Portrait reduces bothersome reflections, ghosting and ghosting, without the need to add filters.

AMOLED

Let’s take a look at the rest of the terminal. Aware that a good camera is wasted if there is no good screen to see its results, vivo X80Pro mounts a huge 6.78-inch E5 AMOLED screen with WQHD+ 3200×1440 2K resolution, occupying 92.22% of the front surface of the terminal. The LTPO panel with curved edges also has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, inside a premium design in Cosmic Black color with anti-reflective fluorite glass and ceramic, with IP68 certification for resistance to water and dust.

The X80 Pro screen, in addition to the micro-perforated Selfie camera, hides another premium detail: a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor to unlock the terminal. According to vivo, “the fastest and largest fingerprint sensor” that it has mounted, equipped with a large surface area on the front of the terminal to cover the finger and that allows functions such as:

  • The ability to create shortcuts and customize them
  • The ability to customize unlock areas and animations
  • The possibility of doing double unlocking with a fingerprint to add greater security when using the mobile.

Pure Snapdragon Power

As a ‘heart’ we have that the mobile uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the chipset that most of this year’s top of the range mount due to the power and performance they provide. As a complement, the dedicated vivo V1+ chip for cameras may be the best technical choice for shooting mobile video. The mobile will be sold in a single configuration with 12 GB of RAM + 256 GB of internal storage space.

The set benefits from a 4700mAh battery equipped with 80W fast wired charging and 50W wireless fast charging. To control the temperature of the device, vivo has implemented a liquid vapor cooling chamber technology to keep the mobile always operating at optimal temperatures. Depending on the way you use to charge the terminal, with cable or ‘wireless’, these are the charging times:

Wired charging 80W:

  • 58% in 15 min
  • 100% in 35 min

Wireless charging 50W:

  • 50% in 23 min

To top it off, being a vivo brand terminal, the X80 Pro comes with the latest version of Funtouch OS as an operating system: Based on Android 12, Funtouch OS 12 is the vivo customization layer that offers an intuitive experience to increase productivity and includes the latest privacy, security, and professional imaging updates.
