Valheim and Data Erasure: How to Avoid Losing Your Progress

Valheim and Data Erasure

After getting more than a million copies sold worldwide in just one week, it seems that not everything is rosy in the Viking worlds of Valheim. Its developers have confirmed the existence of a bug dubbed “the destroyer of worlds” that causes the complete deletion of all the player’s advances. The reason? It could all be related to the way we exit the game.

Be careful, you could lose the entire Valheim game

Valheim

Valheim is being a success. Since its official launch on February 2 in Early Acess format, the game has only accumulated positive comments of all kinds. The fault of this is its aesthetics halfway to Minecraft and its sick difficulty. And it is not enough for you to be infallible against enemies. The environment will also play a very important role in our adventure, to the point that cutting down a tree could be a fateful experience if it falls on us.

With touches of combat, crafting, multiplayer game and a lot of adventure, the game managed to sell more than a million copies in just 1 week, so it is being one of the sensations of the year. However, it is not without its problems, and that is what its developers are trying to warn everyone about.

The world-destroying bug

Valheim

Apparently, many users are experiencing a data erasure error that causes the complete deletion of the player’s profile and all its progress. This causes the affected player to lose their world and all the improvements that they had collected so far, being a hard blow for those affected, who propose not to open the game again.

The developers of Valheim are reporting what happened, and although they have not identified the origin of the problem 100%, the first suspicions seem to point to a bad closing of the game, especially when the ALT + F4 key combination is pressed.

How to save the data?

In principle, its creators are inviting players to use the main menu to close the game correctly, and also encourage a backup of the data for what might happen. To save the data you just have to make a copy of the following folder:

C: UsersUsernameAppDataLocalLowIronGateValheim

Saving that folder and all its contents you should be calm, however, you must bear in mind that you will always lose everything you do in the last session started, so dose your connections.
