It goes without saying that Android mobiles and iPhones have big differences. Each user knows what he can or cannot ask of each device. Android has the DNA of the open source platform that was born from the Linux kernel, while iOS was created on demand for the iPhone, a miniature heir to MacOS. However, iPhone and Android share some common technologies such as Bluetooth. But how far can your compatibility go?
Interaction between mobile devices is common, but we can find some obstacles when we want two environments such as Android and iOS to meet. The conception of both devices as well as their more open nature or not, prevents us from going further in tasks as simple as sharing files.
Recall that the Bluetooth standard was created by the created Bluetooth Special Interest Group, Inc to allow the transmission of voice and data between different devices . The technology makes use of a radio frequency link in the 2.4 GHz ISM band and its main objective is to facilitate communications between mobile devices.
Connect Android and iPhone via Bluetooth
Connectivity between an Android mobile and an iPhone via Bluetooth is possible, but it is not complete. This means that we will find a series of limitations.
What can be done
- Link headphones, or accessories: through Bluetooth, we can connect various peripherals such as Bluetooth headphones between both devices. Even some fake Airpods can be detected as such via Bluetooth and work without problem on iPhones.
- Transfer contacts : Transfer of contacts via Bluetooth is allowed. It is the fastest way to keep the schedule when we switch from one platform to another. The option to share the contacts is supported.
- Share Mobile Data : An iPhone’s mobile data connection can be shared with an Android phone via Bluetooth. You can even go further by sharing data with Apple devices that support Bluetooth access and do not have a SIM card slot like a MacBook or iPod.
What cannot be done
In this part we find perhaps the biggest limitations, since on many occasions, the most interesting thing about Bluetooth for many users is being able to share files quickly and safely.
- Transfer files : it is not possible to transfer files from an Android mobile to an iPhone or vice versa. Apple iPhones do not support the Bluetooth file transfer protocol.
- Data connection: Unlike before, the Android mobile data connection cannot be shared with an iPhone via Bluetooth. IPhones only allow sharing via Bluetooth but do not support access via Bluetooth.
- Limited Wearables: Many Android wearables like the Mi Band 5 are compatible with iOS. However, we will not be able to use an Apple Watch on Android. Apple prefers to close the Bluetooth connection of the Apple Watch to its own iPhone, leaving the door closed to Android phones.
