When browsing the Internet, one of the most important factors for users is privacy. There are many tools that we can use to protect our data and prevent it from being collected by third parties. In this article we are going to talk about Privacy Sandbox . It is an initiative of Google that was born with the aim of improving privacy when using Chrome.
Privacy Sandbox, Chrome’s function to improve privacy
There is no doubt that Google Chrome is today one of the most used browsers both on desktops and mobile devices. This means that when a new tool or feature appears, it could serve many users on the network.
This is what happens with the Privacy Sandbox, which was a Google initiative that emerged more than a year ago with the aim of allowing users to browse the web more privately . We already know that there are many ways through which you can collect information when visiting a site or starting a program, for example.
Privacy Sandbox was announced to allow you to browse more privately with the popular browser and use a set of open standards. It manages to limit and sometimes even avoid the techniques that can be used to track users through the Internet. With this Google plans to delete third-party cookies as an important part of this function.
Try Privacy Sandbox
At the moment the Privacy Sandbox project has not finished. However, we can already test it in Chromium and in Google Chrome Canary , the version where the new functions and features of the Google browser arrive before so that users can test it.
Therefore, we can now make use of this new feature, although it is not yet 100% available and fully functional. In both Chrome Canary and Chromium we can enable it in a simple way.
The first thing we must do in the browser is enter chrome: // flags. This is where we can tweak some aspects and features, as well as test some experimental features. There, in the search bar, we put Privacy Sandbox . By default, the Default option is checked, so we are going to enable it by setting Enabled . Later we restart the browser.
Once we restart the browser, the Privacy Sandbox option will appear in the corresponding section. We can go to Settings , we enter Privacy and security and there we will see Security Testing Zone , which is how it is called in the Spanish version. We can also access it simply by typing chrome: // settings / privacySandbox in the address bar.
At the moment, as we will see, it does not have options beyond a button to see the details of Privacy Sandbox. As we have mentioned, it is for now something in tests, although they have already taken the first step and it appears in the version of Chrome Canary to enable it. It will take a while to actually use it.
