Updates arriving late on your PC? Microsoft tells you why

We have already told you many times in the past that software updates are very important elements. This is something that extends both to the applications that we install and to the operating systems themselves, including, of course, Microsoft‘s Windows.

Updates arriving late on your PC

If we focus on this particular system, we will say that the aforementioned updates is one of the big problems facing the firm. Despite its enormous importance, the problems that these entail have been occurring over the last few years. Some cause serious problems on users’ computers, are never downloaded, or are simply never made available to some. All this despite the intensive work of Microsoft in this regard.

In fact, on certain occasions we can realize that not all Windows computers have the latest released updates installed. While some don’t mind this at all, others want to update Windows as soon as possible. This is precisely the reason why those from Redmond have decided to analyze and study the reason why this happens . That is, why some Windows 10 or Windows 11 devices fall behind on updates when they should be getting them.

And it is that, based on Microsoft analysis, these computers do not meet certain specific update requirements. Thus, Windows-based devices that are not connected without interruption for two hours at a time , or six total hours of connection after an update is released, are typically not updated.

Microsoft explains why updates don’t arrive

Note that from a signing point of view, this is the time required to successfully download and install these updates. It uses the connectivity of the updates as a reference point to observe the behavior of these in Windows. It measures the time that the computers are turned on and connected to Windows Update or to other services for the management of these specific elements.

Thanks to all this, it was possible to see that around 50% of Windows devices do not meet the minimum connectivity measurement to receive the update . In addition, about 25% of those that do not meet the requirements are more than 60 days late in receiving them.

Precisely for this reason, those from Redmond recommend that companies and users try to guarantee that the devices comply with the minimum connectivity measure. This includes users leaving PCs plugged in and connected instead of turning them off overnight .

At the same time, energy management is another area that can potentially reduce the number of updated devices. Thus, Microsoft also suggests modifying the power settings so that we make sure that the computers have enough time to download and install the latest updates. Keep in mind that not having the latest versions of the operating system can cause serious problems. Apart from not having the latest developed functions, we expose ourselves to being vulnerable to the latest attacks since we have not received the most recent security patches sent by Microsoft.
