For any parent the activity of their children on the Internet and social networks in particular is always a concern. You don’t have to be alarmist, but it’s true that if you don’t have some control, it can be a problem. Hence the importance of parental controls and their correct management .

In the latest versions of iOS and Android these controls have greatly improved and new tools have been included to have more data about how the devices are used. But it’s not all there, the applications are also integrating their own tools, TikTok is one of them.

Family Safety Mode,  is what this new feature is called, which, for now, is available to some users. Although it is expected that the rest of the countries will arrive in the next few days or weeks at most.

These new tools allow you to better manage that Digital Detoxification by controlling who can send direct messages, what content can be viewed or not and the time of use. So, if you think we are going to see how it is activated and what it offers.

How to activate TikTok family safety mode

The family safety mode allows you to link the children’s account with the TikTok application of the parent or guardian . That way, they can have detailed information on how they use the platform and other additional settings. To activate this family safety mode, the following must be done:

  1. Download the TikTok application on your smartphone and create your own account
  2. Start the application and go to the user profile, there look for the option of Digital Detoxification
  3. Next, tap on the Family Safety Mode option
  4. Select if you are a parent / guardian or youth
  5. Depending on the previous selection, the option to scan a QR code or the code itself to link that account to the main one will appear
  6. Finally, you will have to create a code to access these options and avoid unauthorized access

So far the way to activate, but the important thing is to know what these new family safety options offer.

How the new TikTok family safety mode works

With the new family safety mode already active, what you want to know is what it offers. Well, within Digital Detoxification and the new options you can manage and control the use of the network by the accounts of your children or minors in your care that you have linked.

The first gives an option to limit the time spent watching content on TikTok. Thus, you can set a maximum of 40, 60 or 120 minutes, so that when it is exceeded they can no longer display anything. And if they want, then you will have to enter a code to allow them to continue.

The second limits the appearance of inappropriate content for some audiences. Because yes, in TikTok there are not only videos with nice dances, there are other types of publications that would not be good for the little ones.

And finally, you can also control who may or may not send direct messages to the children’s account. Thus, you can establish that anyone can, only friends or directly be deactivated.

For that, you just have to go to your Profile, touch the three-dot icon in the upper right corner and look for the new options within Digital Detoxification. It is only a matter of activating and configuring the values you need in each of them.

So you know, although these options were already individually for each one to manage, it is logical that by age and innate curiosity it is difficult for them to do so. Now with the new family safety mode you can be calmer when they tell you that “nothing, here watching TikTok”.
