Earlier in the year, we had the opportunity to see the ThinkPad X1 Fold in person. A frankly striking proposition that we admit convinced us. So much so that the feeling we got after using it was that, indeed, the future will be foldable.
The ThinkPad X1 Fold is a folding laptop thanks to the use of its flexible OLED panel that once unfolded offers us a screen with a total diagonal of 13.3 ″. Although there will be more ways to use the equipment and that is what makes it so attractive compared to other proposals on the market. That and the Windows operating system, with all that this implies at the application level and also at the user interface.
When closed, the device occupies practically the same size as a book. And that is interesting because it is very comfortable to transport on a daily basis, but when you want to work with it you can decide how to do it and based on that you will gain other advantages.
For example, you can use it in tablet mode , thus taking advantage of the improvements in the Windows 10 interface when used through touch controls. You can also use it as a “traditional” laptop and where one half of the screen will become a virtual keyboard or you can place a physical keyboard that is also available. And finally, you can display the screen to the maximum and leave the device on a table to interact with it in the traditional way with a keyboard and mouse.
Here the idea of Lenovo is to offer a computer capable of adapting to the needs of users on the move without weighing down the experience when they are in a quieter environment or require certain extras to work more comfortably. And it works quite well, because you can go for a 9.6-inch or a 13.3-inch desktop.
ThinkPad X1 Fold, features
Physically you have already seen it, but what does this ThinkPad X1 Fold offer at the level of technical specifications. Well, it is not a computer with which you are going to be able to perform super demanding tasks such as running games or applications with a high graphic load. But it will have enough power for more day-to-day uses than with other devices you could not or would not do so efficiently for a simple matter of operating systems.

On a technical level, it is a quite striking and capable proposal. With the logical limitations of a hardware designed for a very portable device and with the distinguishing feature of being foldable. Although we also recall that there are still aspects where it must improve in future generations.
The first and most obvious is that it is too thick, so it does not look so good on an aesthetic level. The second is the hinge system, which while it offers a feeling of robustness and a pleasant opening and closing experience, there is no denying that it is also a bit rough.
However, current technology is what it is and certain commitments must be made to achieve a device with these characteristics and with this particular form factor. Although the worst of all, at least for lovers of the latest, is that its price shoots up to 3,999 euros.
If you want a ThinkPad X1 Fold you will have to pay four thousand euros for it and a little more if you want the version with a 5G module to have connectivity whether or not you have a WiFi network nearby.
