The situation occurs that we are on a trip driving our electric car and at one point we find ourselves with the need to charge the battery.
We approach the closest point, we find the charging station, but… but the cable is not the correct one, or at least the charger doesn’t recognize it.
This is a problem that has been repeated on different occasions, especially in electrified vehicles that are a certain age. But then what can we do? What is the reason why the charger of that station does not recognize the cables of my electric car?
It may indicate an incompatibility

Wireless charging is one of the most advanced technologies in recent years, from mobile devices to electric cars. An example is the Drive 11, a prototype of the ‘park and load’ system, which unfolds on the ground, like a mattress on which the car is placed. But that is not yet so deployed, so we must continue to have the cables and the charger from the station.
We will have to do this by connecting the car through the onboard cable, but the charger system, either through its integrated screen or through the application that we must have installed on our mobile phone, tells us that it is not compatible. The same could happen if the cable belongs to the same charging column, but is unable to recognize the car .
What we should do
In this unfortunate context, the solution may be simpler than it seems. The first thing is to observe the situation of the blue status indicator on the charger control box. It may not light up, flash on and off, or even turn amber.
- This may be because the connector between the house outlet and the charger control box is not fully seated in the charger control box.
- To do this, make sure that this connector is fully inserted into the charger control box. When the connector is properly inserted, the tab on the connector is flush with the charger control box housing . If the tab on the connector protrudes from the charger control box, the connector is not fully seated in the charger control box.
On the other hand, and if this is not enough, we can also try it with another charger, since such an inconvenience may be due to a failure of the charger and not of the vehicle. If the same notice or notification remains at another charging point, we will have to call the company that manages the service station in question and, if they confirm that their chargers are operational and do not present errors, the manufacturer of our car .
