Test your Smart TV with these websites to watch 8K content

8K resolution is a relatively new image standard and essentially defined by its resolution. Its name alludes to its rounded number of horizontal pixels, which leaves its total resolution at 7,680 x 4,320 pixels. To give us an idea, it multiplies by four the resolution of the 4K UHD standard (3,840 x 2,160) and by sixteen that of Full HD televisions (1,920 x 1,080).

Taking into account that it is still quite modern, you may be feeling that you are not taking advantage of it properly, so we are going to give you a series of websites with content in 8K resolution so you can see how far your Smart TV can go.

websites to watch or download 8K content

Youtube

Yes, Google’s video platform has been supporting 8K resolution videos for some time now, more specifically since 2015. As with other videos, it’s not a very common format, but you can try searching by title or displaying the resolution menu to see if there are videos in this resolution.

YouTube video filtering options show an option for 8K as it happens with other standards that go beyond the norm such as 360 ° video, VR180, 3D or HDR. When searching for a specific video you will also see a small icon that marks the highest resolution. You even have channels completely dedicated to 8K videos like the one we embedded above.

Vimeo

Two years after YouTube, in November 2017, Vimeo added support for 8K, along with a few videos to publicize this resolution.

To find the videos that support this massive resolution, just look for the “8K” tag and they will automatically play in the highest possible resolution.

LovePik

This website provides millions of free PNG images, background photos, illustrations, videos, and design templates for designers. Within the video section we can find many at 8K resolution, generally of landscapes and timelapse.

The main problem is that the sample is quite limited and many videos are under a payment gateway and you would have to subscribe to one of their premium plans. In addition, a simple text search sneaks in videos that do not play by default in 8K, but will have to choose the higher resolution by hand.

Pexels

Like the previous example, Pexels also accepts video hosting and has already opened the doors to 8K, although it is more specialized in images.

Although a lot of videos appear looking for the text ‘8K’, many slip through that really aren’t. In everything, be sure to click on the “More Information” section and check that it says “Dimensions: 7680 x 4320”.

Japanese channel NHK

As usual, in Japan they are years ahead of us and even NHK has already made the leap to said resolution.

NHK BS8K

NHKBS8K

At the end of 2018, the Japanese network NHK launched the BS8K channel , a channel dedicated to the broadcast of 8K content that premiered with a remaster of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Right now it plays 8K content periodically and you can check the grid on its website.

Chances are you won’t know much if you don’t know the language, but at least you’ll be able to check out the realistic resolution that these image contents offer.
