How to Take Pictures of Moving Objects with Your Phone

It is not necessary to have an expensive mobile to be creative taking pictures. One of the most sought after effects by users is to freeze objects in an image, something for which you don’t have to be a professional, just take into account two vital aspects. So we can make better photos of moving objects .

Many mobiles promise us an incredible auto approach that is able to freeze images and their protagonists in motion. But many times what happens is that these photos are moved equally. There are some parameters that we can try to “touch” to make the protagonists of the photos appear ” frozen

Adjust shutter speed

This is the key aspect when taking a motion picture. Normally photographs are usually taken at a speed of 1/50 or 1/100, the more we increase the number that follows the bar, the less time the shutter will remain open, and therefore, the quieter the objects will appear in the image. For this we will have to access the manual settings of the camera of our phone, and adjust that speed, increasing it for example up to 1/250.

The trouble with increasing the shutter speed is that less light is captured, which is no problem if we are photographing a moving object, person or pet when we are in full sunlight. But if the light begins to run out, you will notice that the image is much darker.

Adjust the ISO

In order to compensate for that lack of light , once we have adjusted the shutter speed to a faster setting, what we must do is also adjust the ISO in the manual controls of the camera.

With this we can adjust the brightness, adjust the ISO until the light captured by the camera is adequate, but taking into account that the image noise is not high. For that reason you must play with these two parameters, until you find the perfect balance between speed and luminosity. The result, as you can see in the attached image, is a practically frozen ball in front of us, with a speed of 1/250, yes, with optimal lighting conditions.

Use burst mode

This mode can offer us very surprising results without a doubt, because when we use the burst we can take several photos in a single second . These photos are usually taken with a faster shooting speed, and usually freeze the action better in front of the camera. The most logical thing is that in a moving scene if you use the burst you can find more than one image where the protagonist is completely still.

Make a sweep with the mobile camera

To take for example the image of a cyclist whizzing past us, it is best to follow your path to wait it out in front of the camera. If we remain still, the most normal thing is that the background of the image is clear and the cyclist is blurred. On the other hand, if we follow if trajectory we can achieve the opposite effect, focusing on the moving subject with a high shutter speed. Some simple tips to carry out and that are the perfect base to start making moving photographs of a certain quality.
