Samsung quietly included a new feature in its Galaxy S23 family of smartphones that allows power to be delivered to the phone without charging the battery. At first, that may sound absurd, but it makes sense when you want to reduce heat and reduce power consumption, such as when you spend a lot of time playing games on your smartphone.
This tool, called ‘Pause USB Power Delivery‘ is found in the ‘Game Booster‘ menu on some S23 series phones, but strangely enough, it is not present on all of them. Because? Samsung hasn’t included the feature in all the Galaxy S23 series phones and we don’t quite know why this decision is due, in all honesty. On paper, it should work on the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra phones, but at the moment it seems that the lucky few find this option within their phone’s Game Booster menu.
But the firm’s newest phones aren’t the only ones benefiting from this new charging tool. The Galaxy S22 series is also getting the Pause USB Power Delivery feature after updating the Game Booster app to the latest version available within the Galaxy Apps store i.e. version 5.0.03.0. What’s more, in some regions, this new function has also appeared in mid-range phones such as the Galaxy A73 5G or in the signature foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Interestingly, some users claim that the feature appeared on their phones only after using Samsung’s 45W USB charger . Perhaps a future system update, not just the app, will unlock it for more S23 owners (and other manufacturer models) and what only a few users are finding is proof that, soon, it will reach more of the company’s customers. brand in the future, we suppose, closer than distant.
How does it work?
When turned on, the feature allows the phone to receive enough power to function , but does not use any of the available power to recharge the battery. That is, you can have the smartphone plugged into the charger, but power will not be supplied to the battery, it will simply remain stable. Power from the connected charger goes directly to the processor and not to the cell.
In this way, even if it is somewhat uncomfortable to play ‘tied’ to a power cable, the heat that appears when the battery is charged is prevented from spoiling both the performance and the health of the battery. Never forget that the hotter a phone gets, the worse it will perform as the device throttles so as not to overheat.
