The fight in the mid-range has several protagonists, but the fight between Samsung and Xiaomi is more than interesting. The Korean company takes advantage of its experience and reputation among the general public, while Xiaomi continues to gain followers based on maximizing the quality / price ratio . For this reason we wanted to compare two rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy M31 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro, to see the differences between both devices.
Samsung’s Galaxy M family clearly puts the focus on the battery, something that few terminals can cope with. In this aspect we will see how the M31 is one of the kings, although the Redmi Note 9 Pro has other weapons to fight against this terminal. Both have enough arguments to be one of the best options in the price range below 300 euros.
Screen and dimensions
The first big difference is in the screen of both devices. The Galaxy M31 reaches 6.4 inches with FullHD + resolution and a 19.5: 9 screen ratio. The Note 9 Pro goes up to 6.67 inches with the same resolution and a 20: 9 aspect ratio. It should be noted that the Samsung device is protected with Gorilla Glass 3, while the Xiaomi does the same with Gorilla Glass 5.
The front also has a notable difference, and it is the way of housing the front camera. The Galaxy M31 sports a classic drop-shaped notch, while the Xiaomi device integrates the selfie sensor in a hole in its screen. Regarding weight and thickness and despite having a much larger battery, it is surprising to see that the Galaxy M31 is the least heavy terminal with its 191 grams, compared to the 209 grams of the Redmi Note 9 Pro. As for the thickness, we have almost a difference only noticeable with a caliber, since the Samsung has a thickness of 8.9 millimeters compared to the 8.8 millimeters of the Chinese device.
Processors, memory and performance
Under the hood we also see very different bets. Samsung bets on an Exynos 9611 processor from the house, while the Xiaomi device integrates a Snapdragon 720G. In the graphic section, the M31 moves the games with a Mali-G72 GPU compared to the Adreno 618 GPU of the Note 9 Pro. The two terminals offer in Spain a maximum configuration of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
In order to get an idea about the role of this processor difference, we can take a look at the results of both terminals in a performance program as well known as AnTuTu. The Galaxy M31 exceeds 180,000 points, while the Redmi Note 9 Pro reaches 274,000. This is a notable difference in favor of the Qualcomm chip, which can provide an extra speed and performance bonus at times where the user requires it.
Tied in cameras
When we turn both devices around, we find an almost clonal arrangement in terms of number of sensors and their capacity. The Galaxy M31 features a 64 megapixel main camera, an 8 megapixel wide angle and 5 megapixel macro and depth sensors. The selfie camera is where we see the most noticeable difference, at least in sensor capacity. The Galaxy M31 has a 32 megapixel front camera, which can also capture 4K video giving it an edge in the new resurgence of video calling. Xiaomi’s mobile has a 16 megapixel front sensor, which captures video in FullHD.
Connections and battery
The good news is that the two terminals have the main connections including Bluetooth 5, GPS and maintain the 3.5mm headphone jack. They also have NFC for mobile payments, FM radio as well as a USB Type-C connector. In the battery we find notable differences, which move the scale from one side to the other. On the one hand, the M31 has a huge 6,000 mAh battery, but with a 15W fast charge, while the Redmi Note 9 Pro drops to a not inconsiderable 5,020 mAh, raising the fast charge to 30W.
And the prices?
If we take a look at portals such as Amazon, we see that the Samsung Galaxy M31 is priced at about 270 euros, in its version with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. In the same memory variant, we find a Redmi Note 9 Pro for 207 euros , which is a notable difference that could be something key for many users.
