How to Retweet without Adding Comment or Opening Web Links

Twitter announced not long ago its intention to change  the way it retweets  within its platform. A decision that has already materialized and has generated some controversy, mainly among artists, considering that in this way the comment is given more importance than what is shared, but is this really the case? Does it mean that we will no longer be able to do the classic RT? Let’s see it.

What has changed in the retweets?

Retweet

Twitter decided to change the way the retweet button works. And that is why, from now on, many users are seeing that pressing the button to retweet the message is no longer shared directly with their followers . Now what appears is the window to compose a new tweet.

This change, which may be inconspicuous for some, is the opposite for others. What’s more, that Twitter encourages users of its network to comment on anything they see published by another profile is even nonsense for some. Because you think that said comment, link or image that you want or decide to add is being given more importance than the content of the original tweet.

And yes, in part that reading may be correct, but in the end it is a measure that has a clear objective: to avoid misinformation. Hence, the change will make many users give up retweeting.

The reason for the change

As we have said, the change in behavior when retweeting is basically due to the struggle for misinformation in which all social platforms are immersed and not just Twitter.

By opening the window to compose a new tweet, thus generating a tweet with comment, there will be many users who give up and that could help combat the rapid spread of many content that unfortunately is not verified before being published or shared.

Furthermore, it is not the only measure that Twitter has taken in this regard. Recently we also saw how now, when retweeting a publication that contains a link, the user will be invited to read it first in their browser so that they can check whether or not what they share is what they really think it is.

How to retweet without adding a comment

With these changes already assimilated, the question that some are now asking is whether it will no longer be possible to continue making retweets as they were done until now. The answer is that you can retweet without adding a comment, image or link. The only difference is that by default this is not the case anymore.

However, when you only want to share a Twitter post without adding any comments, you will be able to continue doing so. How? Well, in a very simple way:

  1. Select the tweet you want to retweet
  2. Click on the retweet button
  3. When the composer opens again tweet do not write anything
  4. In the upper right, click on the retweet button
  5. Ready, this will share the tweet as you have been doing so far

In the same way that you can continue sharing tweets on the platform as you have been doing until now, you can also do it with all those publications that invite you before to read the news or text that is linked through a web address. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Select the tweet to retweet
  2. When the message appears to access the link first and read its content, ignore it
  3. Hit the retweet button at the top to share the post again
  4. Ready

As you can see, this is ultimately nothing more than a way to add some intermediate steps with which spreading fake news becomes a bit more complicated. Not impossible, because the only way to avoid misinformation is with the education of users, but a small obstacle that will make many give up.

A definitive change?

Finally, although this change could be definitive, for now the only thing that is clear is that Twitter has confirmed that at least they will be maintained until the end of the election week that is taking place in the United States. That is, until the beginning of November it is very likely that you will see this behavior when you retweet. Then we will see if it ends up staying or not.
