Remote Play Together: Play Steam Games Without Steam Account

Today it is very common to find online functions in most games. However, if we have a relatively old game in the library, it is very likely that it has the typical local multiplayer, which allows two or more people to play on the same computer. If we live together, this can be easy, but if we want to play with friends, and we live in different places, things get complicated. And this is where Remote Play Together comes in .

Remote Play Together is a Steam function, developed by Valve, that allows any user to remotely connect to the computer of the person running the game to be able to use local multiplayer even if we are not present in the same place. To do this, what Steam does is create a virtual LAN (Hamachi style) and join the two computers through it. As long as one of the two has the game purchased, both can play it.

This is a very useful and easy-to-use function. The only requirement is that the host has a Steam account and the purchased game in their possession, while the guest only needs to have a free Steam account. And now, thanks to the new Remote Play Together Invite Anyone , not even the guest will need to have an account.

This is Remote Play Together Invite Anyone: play without Steam

The first thing we will have to do, as hosts, is to open a game that supports local multiplayer through Remote Play Together. Once the game is open, we will open the Steam panel using the Shift + Tab keyboard shortcut, and in the chat box we will now see a new option.

If we click on this button, we will automatically copy a link to the clipboard of our computer. This link will be the one that we will have to send to the person we want to invite (by WhatsApp, by mail, etc.) so that they can join our game.

Once the link is copied, the Remote Play options will open. We can adjust the volume of the broadcast and the peripherals that we want it to be able to use. If we have lost the link we can copy it back to the clipboard.

Clever. All the other person has to do is open this link and they will find a page where they will see our invitation.

Only a single player can join via link. If we want to add more players to the game we will have to do it in the classic way, that is, inviting them to the game from the Steam chat. And that requires that they themselves have the client installed and an account.

Availability

This new feature is now available to Steam users using the beta version of the desktop client. When Valve considers that it is stable enough, the company will bring it to all users in the normal version of the program. But for now, the only way to test this feature is by signing up for the Steam Beta Update .
