Quick Share: Samsung’s New Method for File sharing

galaxy-s20When a new terminal is introduced, the hardware components are used to breastfeed and dazzle the competition. However, in recent times, part of the presentations of large manufacturers put a lot of focus on the software, which is also defining for many users in the purchase decision. Now, we know that Samsung is preparing a new file-sharing feature that is the first real alternative to Apple‘s AirDrop.

This time they have been the developers of XDADevelopers, who have had access to the information that reveals the existence of Quick Share . It is a kind of alternative to AirDrop but on Galaxy phones. It is a very simple tool and is intended to send files quickly between two Galaxy phones. In XDA they have been able to run the APK, but they have not managed to work with their test devices that are obviously not optimized.

Two methods to share

According to the source, Quick Share has been discovered in a Samsung Galaxy S20 + 5G in the possession of an anonymous developer and has shared the information. The tool will offer the possibility to share files with compatible nearby devices, in two different ways. The first offered by Quick Share allows you to share files with only a few previously selected contacts . The “All” mode, however, will allow the user to share the files with other compatible devices in a nearby area.

Quick Share will also allow you to temporarily upload files to Samsung Cloud, and files up to 1 GB in size can be uploaded with a maximum of two files per day. As indicated by XDA, the service will be launched with the Samsung Galaxy S20 + although it is likely to include all devices running the OneUI 2.1 layer based on Android 10. However, it is a service that could well be included in more devices old by a simple software update.

Closer to Apple

We will still have to wait a month to see Quick Share debut with the new Samsung, although the tool follows the line of some similar ideas such as the launch by OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi, which have a cross-platform file sharing function . It is another step to avoid reliance on third-party solutions and that Android terminals can be compared to Apple in this regard.
