This QNAP TS-410E NAS is completely silent, ideal for home

The manufacturer QNAP has launched a new small-sized NAS server, suitable only for 2.5″ disks, in addition, in this case it is completely silent because it does not have a fan, so it is ideal to place it in the living room of our home, in the studio where we work, and also in any small business office. This model is the QNAP TS-410E, and it is a really powerful device capable of everything. Today in this article we are going to explain its main features and who it is designed for.

Main features

QNAP TS-410E NAS

This new QNAP TS-410E NAS server has high-end hardware, ideal for carrying out almost any action with the computer, especially when it comes to multimedia, as it incorporates a powerful processor. Below, you can see all the features of this new high-performance and completely silent NAS.

Processor and RAM

The main processor of this new NAS server is the Intel Celeron J6412 , a powerful Quad-Core processor at a speed of 2.0GHz , although in “Turbo” speed it reaches a speed of 2.6GHz to deal with tasks that need more speed. This processor has a 64-bit x86 architecture, in addition, it incorporates an Intel UHD Graphics graphics processor. Thanks to this graphics processor, we have hardware-accelerated transcoding , so we will be able to use programs like Plex Media Server very intensively and without problems, this is perfect for enjoying multimedia content in 4K resolution. The J6412 features AES-NI hardware encryption acceleration , ideal for encrypting and decrypting data traffic and also for storing all encrypted data inside the NAS.

Regarding the RAM memory of this server, we have a total of 8GB DDR4 on the board itself, it cannot be expanded, so at most we will have this RAM capacity of 8GB. In our opinion, it would have been desirable to incorporate the possibility of expanding it up to 16GB of RAM, to be able to virtualize operating systems, use Docker containers intensively, etc.

This equipment also has a 4GB capacity flash memory , to store the dual-boot operating system, a common feature in QNAP manufacturer NAS.

Storage

The storage of this NAS server consists of a total of 4 bays to accommodate 2.5 “hard drives or 2.5” SSD drives. For this reason, this NAS has such a small footprint, of course, it supports hot swapping, support for SSD cache acceleration, and all the usual features regarding QTS storage.

As you can see, thanks to the incorporation of 4 bays for 2.5″ drives, we will be able to store a lot of content inside, although we must remember that the largest capacity hard drives with 2.5″ format are around 5TB about. You should also take into account the loss of storage capacity if you use different types of RAID.

Connectivity

Regarding connectivity, this NAS server is really complete, below, you can see the connectivity of this equipment:

  • 2 2.5G Multigigabit Ethernet ports , with support for Jumbo Frames and also for Link Aggregation.
  • 4 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports at 10Gbps , thanks to these fast ports we will be able to make backup copies really quickly.
  • HDMI 1.4b port with 4K resolution and 30Hz.

This equipment has perfect connectivity, the only thing we miss is a PCIe port, but due to its small size this is physically impossible, because no card would fit inside it. What we do have is a Kensington connector to prevent theft.

Other features

Regarding the dimensions of this NAS, we are facing a team that measures 6cm x 18cm and 25.4cm, a really small size. The weight of this equipment is 2.64Kg. The power supply of this equipment is external, and is capable of providing 90W of power. This model does not have a fan to extract hot air from inside, so it is completely silent. A very important detail is that if you install mechanical hard drives it is possible that their temperature is quite high, since we do not have any air flow, this equipment is designed to use SSD drives that do not get so hot.

Finally, the operating system is QTS 5.0, as is usual in all models from the manufacturer QNAP. We have the same configuration options as always.
