Xiaomi Mobile Data Not Working? SIM, APN and HyperOS Checks

When mobile data stops working on a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone, first check the SIM, signal and data allowance. Then compare settings and apps. HyperOS and older MIUI versions use different menu labels, so use Settings search if the path differs.

Xiaomi Mobile Data Not Working? SIM, APN and HyperOS Checks

Quick checks before editing an APN

  1. Turn Wi-Fi off briefly so you can tell whether mobile data works.
  2. Check that mobile data is enabled and the correct SIM is selected for data on a dual-SIM phone.
  3. Check signal, your remaining allowance, account status and any carrier outage.
  4. Turn Airplane mode on briefly, then turn it off again, or restart normally. Test the connection again.
  5. Try two apps. If only one fails, check that app’s mobile-data permission, Data Saver and any VPN you use.

Xiaomi’s mobile-data troubleshooting also highlights data settings, account status and app restrictions. Lack of an internet connection is not proof that the phone itself is broken.

Use the carrier’s APN details

Search Settings for APN or Access point names, select the correct SIM and compare its active profile with your carrier’s instructions. The setting may sit under Mobile networks or SIM cards and mobile networks.

Try the offered APN reset when appropriate, then reselect the carrier’s correct profile. If you must enter values manually, copy them from the carrier. Do not universally change MVNO type from SPN to IMSI, authentication or other fields: the correct values depend on the service.

Network mode and roaming

Use the carrier’s recommended automatic network selection and preferred network mode. A 5G setting cannot create 5G coverage, and a temporary 4G comparison may help locate a coverage issue. Keep a note of what you change.

Roaming depends on the SIM and tariff. Some virtual networks or travel situations require it, but do not assume it is always free domestically or abroad. Ask the carrier whether it is needed and what charges apply. Xiaomi’s roaming checklist also covers service activation and network compatibility.

Use the symptom to narrow the cause

Result What to investigate
Calls and signal also fail SIM activation, coverage, carrier outage or hardware.
Only one app cannot connect App permission, data restriction or its own service.
The SIM also fails in another compatible phone SIM, account or carrier network.
Another working SIM fails only in this phone Device settings, compatibility or hardware.

Reset network settings only after the simpler checks

Read the device’s reset description first. A combined network reset can remove saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings as well as mobile settings. Keep the details needed to reconnect. It is different from a factory reset, which should not be the first response.

For software-related problems, check the official updater using our Xiaomi update guide. If data still fails, give the carrier the model, software version and exact symptom; ask Xiaomi support about a fault that follows the device.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there a 4G or 5G icon but no internet?

The network indicator does not prove that the account, APN, allowance and app connection all work.

Should I copy an APN from another network?

No. Use the values provided for your own carrier and SIM.

Should roaming always be enabled?

No. Check whether your service needs it and whether charges apply.

Does a network reset delete photos?

A network reset is different from a factory reset, but read the exact confirmation and expect saved connections or pairings to be affected.
