Pluto TV is the first AVOD (advertising-based video on demand) platform in the Spanish market, that is, content on demand with advertising. To access the content offered by Pluto TV, it is not necessary to register and we do not have to pay for it, since all its content is totally free. Pluto TV is available in all Google and Android devices, including Android TV, Apple devices, including Apple TV and other devices such as tablets, Smart TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire consoles or TV. A priori, everything seems to be advantages: free content, a wide range of devices on which to watch it … but, in addition to the rather invasive advertising of the platform, there are other aspects and options that Pluto TV still does not have and that would improve the experience of users when it comes to watching television over the Internet with Pluto TV.
Features that Pluto TV doesn’t have
Once we enter Pluto TV to consume its content on demand or we want to see any of its channels live, we soon realize that the platform still has many aspects to polish so that it becomes the first choice of users at the time to watch free streaming content over the Internet.
Channel resolution
Pluto TV does not allow us to choose the resolution of the content we want to see and automatically adapts it according to the quality of the Internet connection that we have at that time. The maximum resolution it offers is HD so something that we can miss and what Pluto TV does not have are 4K channels.
Related to the options available when viewing the contents of Pluto TV, the platform also lacks the pause button, so we cannot pause what we are watching at any time. It also does not have the option to include subtitles or change the language enabled. So we will have to settle for seeing its contents in the original version and without subtitles.
User experience
As far as the user experience is concerned, there are several aspects that can be improved. It is annoying that the thumbnail of the content that is currently being viewed cannot be minimized while we scroll between the different channels in search of another live channel or movie of interest. Another of the shortcomings that we find is that we do not have the possibility of synchronizing the content on several devices at the same time, since, as we have told you before, it is not necessary to make any type of registration or create any account to access the platform.
Despite having a very varied catalog of content and being a free platform that gradually includes new channels, in terms of user experience and content quality there are many shortcomings that we hope will soon be improved.
