Sony has confirmed this, the new PS5 games will only be playable with the new DualSense . That means that it does not matter how many or what type of controls you have for your current PS4, you will not be able to take advantage of them and the reason seems more than justified. Although hold on, this does not mean that you should throw them away just after purchasing your future Playstation 5 at the end of the year.
Sony PS5 and its support for DualShock 4
The DualShock 4 that you have been using up to now on the Playstation 4 are numbered days , or almost. The company has confirmed that they will not be able to be used to play future releases of Playstation 5. So if you intended to only purchase a new DualSense you will have to change plans if you want to play with friends or family at home.
This decision to not allow new games to be played with the DualShock seems to be more than justified, although there are those who have not done well and think that it is a way to get more money with the sale of new accessories together with the future console. But we cannot forget that the same thing happened with the jump from PS3 to PS4.
This time Sony justifies this decision in a way that seems completely logical. To enjoy the best experience and the new technologies that the console will include, you will need a controller where many of those novelties that seek greater and more precise gameplay will also be integrated. For example, new motors to improve the vibration system, adaptive triggers and other series of extra details such as the integrated microphone, etc.
This, together with the physical change, that despite maintaining a similar form factor, bets on a more ergonomic and comfortable design to play for long periods of time, they seem to make it worth the investment.
However, do not rush. Even if you can’t use the DualShock 4 , what about other PS4 controllers. Well, depending on the type, this is what you can do:
- Officially licensed flyers and joysticks can be used with PS5 and PS4 games
- DualShock 4 will only support compatible PS4 games on PS5
- PS Move controls and gun for PlayStation VR can be used on PS5
Finally, headphones that connect through the USB port or audio jack will have no problem being used with PS5. So it’s not such bad news, either, and in case you’re not going to play PS4 titles on PS5, you can always use the PlayStation 4 controller on PC.
Microsoft did it better
Now that we know that the controls of Play 4 will not be compatible with Play 5 games, there are those who said that Microsoft had done better. And yes, it may be true, but the changes that the Redmon company has made are minimal because its gamepad was already very good in itself.
With this we do not say that the Play is bad, but it is true that the Xbox Controller has always enjoyed greater popularity by most players, especially its Xbox Elite Controller. So, it was normal for Sony to improve all those aspects that its users demanded and Microsoft did not touch a product that already convinced the vast majority of its users.
Therefore, you should not see the change of console and the need to buy new controls as something bad. It is simply logical evolution with each new generation. Especially if you think about the time we end up spending in front of the machine, they enjoy all those games that then both amuse us and even mark.
