Viewing videos in Picture in Picture mode is something that is being standardized by different applications. With the arrival of iOS 14, this process has become much easier as it is one of its star features, but YouTube has not yet implemented it in its service. Also through different tricks that we are going to tell you below, you will be able to view all the content you want in PiP.
View YouTube videos on PiP in Safari
Although this Picture in Picture mode has not been implemented in the official YouTube application, it can be achieved through Safari as long as you are on iOS 14 or higher. For this, the PiP function must be activated in the configuration of the iPhone itself. To be able to activate it, you simply have to follow the following steps:
- On the iPhone go to Settings.
- Enter the ‘General’ section.
- Look for ‘Image within image’ and click on it.
- Activate the first option that appears.
From this mode when you are watching a video on YouTube through Safari and change the application or slide up to return to the main screen, you will see the floating PiP window. In this same window you will have the possibility to pause the playback at any time.
View YouTube in Picture in Picture with shortcuts
In the event that you are looking for other alternatives, you can always use the shortcuts that different people have created to perform this action. In these shortcuts, just by introducing a link of the video you want to view, previously copied, you can start watching it in a floating window without having to go to the main screen or change the app. To do this, the first thing to do is allow the installation of untrusted shortcuts. To do this you have to follow the following steps:
- Go into Settings.
- Scroll to the ‘Shortcuts’ section and enter.
- Check the ‘Allow rogue shortcuts’ option.
Once this is done you will also have to install an application called Scriptable that you will find in the App Store that is indicated for developers and that will allow all the shortcut commands to be executed. When this application is installed, you can download and install the corresponding shortcut in the application to save it in your library. Once this is done you can copy the link of any YouTube video and when you run the shortcut you must paste it in the dialog box that will appear.
Once this is done, a floating window will automatically appear that you can move freely across the screen of your iPhone.
YouTube could integrate this function
Currently there are different plans within the Google company to be able to natively integrate this function so demanded by all. This is something that still cannot be understood why it is not there, since when thinking about viewing a video, the YouTube image arrives at any time. For now you have to settle for these shortcuts or do it through Safari but it will soon be integrated into the YouTube Premium subscription.
In addition to completely removing the ads from any video, with this subscription you can have a floating window with the content you are viewing. Obviously, this subscription will have to be paid but in the end giving it more features will make it much more attractive to users.
