Photos grow on Instagram: the full screen arrives

Instagram is one of the most popular social networks at the moment, especially in summer. A time when users take the opportunity to share the places they visit during their vacations. As a consequence of this reputation, the platform is preparing to soon include a new way of publishing photos by offering full screen for it.

The rise of other applications has forced the Meta-owned service to innovate and seek other ways to meet user needs. This novelty has been the last decision they have made from within, since most use the app to upload photos and having a different alternative is ideal to get images that we have never been able to appreciate before due to the format.

Instagram has decided

This functionality that Instagram intends to add soon is nothing new, since the company already announced a few weeks ago its intention to offer a full-screen design , like TikTok. However, it seemed to back down in the last instance, although finally everything indicates that they are going to move forward.

It has been the CEO of the platform, Adam Mosseri, who has confirmed that the tests to integrate full-screen photos will begin sooner rather than later. This means that it is only a matter of time before users have the pleasure of posting a photo with a 9:16 aspect ratio .

The livestream made it public on his weekly Ask Me Anything, where users asked if there are any cool image features on the way, to which Mosseri responded, “One of the things we hope to test in a week or two is support for photos at 9:16 “. According to the statements, the purpose of this measure is that the videos and photographs are similar: “You can have tall videos, but you cannot have tall photos on Instagram. So we thought maybe we should make sure we treat them both equally.”

Instagram currently uses the 4:5 format for images in the app. So to upload a post with another aspect ratio you have to add borders to the sides which can completely ruin the capture. This change would mean the end of this problem and greater freedom for the user when it comes to sharing content, although the company has already tried to force this relationship and it did not end up coming together.

A necessary change

There is no doubt that TikTok has revolutionized social networks with a dynamic full screen format . This is the main reason why Instagram decided to bet on the so-called Reels , it being a matter of time before the change also ended up affecting the photos.

Likewise, the company has also worked so that horizontal videos are displayed correctly in this function, so it seems that its objective is to offer support for all possible formats .

A beneficial decision for the user, who will be able to give variability to his Instagram profile with creative photos. Of course, at the moment it is unknown when this full-screen image test will arrive, but the CEO stated that in a matter of one or two weeks it could start.
