HBO is one of the best streaming video services and has some of the best series in history, such as The Wire or Los Soprano. But it also has children’s content for the little ones in the house, cartoons and special films for children and adapted to their age. The parental control of HBO will not filter by exact ages or by specific series but is global and will divide the application or the web into two: HBO Spain and HBO Kids. What this security method will do is that children will not be able to leave their section without knowing a four-digit password so they can only see content suitable for all audiences or content that is considered “childish”. We have to be especially careful even if we activate it, since we may find series or movies for people over seven years of age that may not be suitable for preschoolers.
Activate parental control
The PIN code consists of a four-digit code that you can activate or deactivate at any time from the lock icon that you will see in the application or in the web version. They will be able to navigate freely through the “Kids” section, discover the different categories, access fashion series or movies and reproduce and stop the chapters as much as they want or need. But they can’t get out of there.
To activate parental control on HBO, follow a few simple steps:
- Go to the HBO Spain website
- Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner
- Go to “My Account”
- Click on “Settings”
- In the left menu, choose “Parental Settings”
- Create a four-digit PIN code
Disable the PIN code
If you have decided that you do not find it useful or that you do not want to continue using it, you can deactivate the PIN code whenever you want and you can jump from Kids to HBO normally. To deactivate it, just follow some steps similar to the previous ones:
- Go to the HBO website
- Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner
- Go to your account information
- Choose “Parental Control”
- Click on the option “Deactivate PIN code”
What content can be seen?
Unlike the parental control of Netflix, in HBO you cannot block a specific series or several of them, but you will simply divide the content into “apt” and “unfit”. We can access the Kids section of HBO that has series and films for over seven years or for all audiences but not with productions categorized as “for over twelve years.”
We can see this classification of the HBO parental control with the Harry Potter saga since all the films of the young wizard are available on HBO but by activating the parental control you can only see three of them: Harry Potter and the philosopher’s stone, Harry Potter and the secret chamber and Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban. The rest of the saga is restricted and will not be able to see them without adult supervision.
