Organize accessories in the Home app

Today there are many users who use smart devices in their homes. If you are one of those who is home automation with the application included in iPhone and iPad called Home, in this post we are going to tell you how you can configure the accessories to have them in the best possible way.

Although there aren’t many accessories that are compatible with the Home app, there are more and more. And there are a lot of small accessories, such as light bulbs or lamps that can make your house light up automatically when you select it. You can change the colors and intensity to your liking thanks to Siri.

If you want to add an accessory to the Home app, use your iPhone or iPad. Please note that accessories cannot be added to the Home app on a Mac. Before setting up the accessory, check the following:

  • Make sure the accessory is on and nearby.
  • Check the accessory’s manual to see if it needs additional hardware to work with HomeKit.

Then open the Home app and tap Add Accessory or Add, tap Add Accessory, and use the iPhone or iPad camera to scan the eight-digit HomeKit code or QR code on the accessory or its documentation. If you have an iPhone 7 or later and see the on the accessory, place your iPhone near it to add it. When your accessory appears, tap it. If prompted to Add accessory to network, tap Allow, then give the accessory a name and assign it to a room to make it easier for you to identify it in the Home app and control it with Siri. Finally click Next and then OK.

You can also organize accessories by rooms to track their location and control rooms with Siri. You can also group the rooms into a zone, for example, “upstairs” or “downstairs”. You can also add a room. To do this, open the Home app and tap or click Add, select Add room and give your room a name, then tap or click Save. To navigate between different rooms, open the Rooms tab and swipe left or right across the screen or trackpad.

You can also assign accessories to a room, and if you assign accessories to a room, you can do things like play and control music throughout the house or ask Siri to play what you want to watch where you want to watch it. To do this, press and hold on the accessory. On a Mac, double-click the accessory. Then scroll down and tap or click Room. Finally choose a room, then tap or click Close to save it.

If you want to organize rooms into one zone, like upstairs or downstairs, and you can easily control different areas of your home with Siri. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Rooms tab, tap or click Home and select Room Settings
  2. Tap or click Zone. Select a suggested zone or choose New zone and give it a name.
  3. Tap or click OK.
