Orange's 5G is faster: it already flies up to 1.5 Gbps

Since last year, after an exclusive interview with the CEO of Orange, Jean-François Fallacher, the operator made its intentions quite clear to us: ” We will be the operator with the best 5G speed and the most powerful network .” More than a year later, the French telephone company, after completing the rearrangement of the 5G spectrum assigned to it, has managed to increase the speed of its fifth-generation mobile network by up to 60%.

In addition, the French company celebrates its Network Week, highlighting the great technological advances that have been deployed in recent times in its fixed and mobile networks, as well as its application in business to offer the best services and connectivity to Your clients. Although, one of the highlights is Orange’s 5G which is now faster than ever.

Orange’s 5G is 60% faster

As we have been telling you, Orange’s ideal was to make its fifth-generation mobile network the best in terms of speed and power. And, with the rearrangement of the 5G spectrum that the operator has assigned, the truth is that its customers will be able to notice a great improvement when browsing the Internet with this mobile connection.

More than anything, because from this change, the company’s customers will be able to enjoy a speed increase of 60% of what they had to date. In fact, this improvement in your mobile network can mean speed spikes of up to 1.5 Gbps at times of high data demand.

In addition, Orange already has 5G coverage for 69% of the Spanish population . Therefore, its network reaches 1,529 municipalities spread over 52 provinces. In this way, the operator exceeds its objective, which was to bring its fifth generation network to more than 1,500 municipalities in 2022.

Reordering of frequencies

It must be taken into account that, in 2018, the Orange operator obtained 60 MHz in the auction for the upper part of the 3.5 GHz band , the most relevant and differential for 5G, which was added to the 40 MHz that the
French company had already obtained just two years earlier at the bottom. However, to finalize the distribution of this band among the operators, they had to wait for another 20 MHz that were occupied by the Ministry of Defense to be released and for it to be auctioned off in early 2021.

In any case, once the time came, Orange managed to acquire an additional 10 MHz, becoming the telephone company with the most spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band: a total of 110 MHz. The downside of this band is that it was not located on adjacent frequencies. And in order to have a higher signal transmission speed, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation published a Ministerial Order at the end of February 2022. In addition, a period of six months was given to reorder their frequencies. And, thanks to this, Orange customers will now have a better speed in 5G.
