One Outlook, the First Image of the New Mail App for Windows

Earlier this week we told you that Microsoft was planning to do away with Windows mail clients, the Mail app and Outlook, to create a new application that unifies both. At the moment it was nothing more than a rumor, since neither the company had confirmed anything or any type of information had been leaked. However, not a week has passed and we already have here the first “official” images (rather, filtered) of what will be this new mail client that, for now, we know as One Outlook .

The problem with Microsoft and Windows is that it has many duplicate programs . On the one hand, the company offers classic Win32 applications, inherited from a long time ago, and on the other hand, the new Windows 10 UWPs. This means that, for example, in the field of email we have, on the one hand, the application of Typical mail, and on the other the conventional Outlook client. Not counting the web, which in the end is the most used by users, as with Gmail.

One Outlook

Microsoft has been aware of this problem for a long time, and is working little by little to fix it. And as part of this solution, the turn of this email client has come.

One Outlook – The ultimate email client? for Windows 10

Under the codename “Project Monarch “, Microsoft is working to merge its two Windows mail clients into one. This new client will be much smaller and faster, but at the same time more complete than the previous two. To do this, what Microsoft is going to do is create an enhanced web application with APIs and extensions (such as integration with the action center and with Windows Share) to offer a totally new experience to users.

The new One Outlook, as you can see, is a 100% web-based application . Basically it is like opening the Outlook page and checking our mail from there. This makes it much more intuitive and easy to read email, but we fear that we will lose functions and features, such as being able to use this client to check email from other accounts, such as Gmail.

A simple email client, focused on managing messages from Outlook accounts, but nothing else. Personally, we like the current Mail app much more, mainly because it has the ability to manage several email accounts at the same time . We will have to go back to other programs, like Thunderbird, for this purpose.

We still have to wait to try this new app

You can tell from the design that the new One Outlook is still in a very early stage of development. We will still have to wait a long time before we can install this app on our computer. Even if the UWP installer leaks on the web (as it has happened), it only works if we have an internal Microsoft account, so we could not have more than a nice icon on the desktop that would not do much.

Microsoft continues to work on its new mail client for Windows. And while we don’t know when we’ll see it yet, it may arrive alongside 21H2 as part of the Sun Valley renovation.
