One of the best office applications that can be used on Mac is without a doubt the Microsoft suite. This has become a good alternative to the native Apple suite, iWork, but with the passage of time it is accompanied by the loss of support by developers. In this article we tell you the last decision that Microsoft has made regarding Office 2016 and that you may not like.
Office 2016 loses support
As is normal for any type of service, priorities should be set when developing and launching service updates. We are used to seeing how certain applications lose the support of updates that carries with it the obligation to switch to using another similar service. This is what has happened with the 2016 version of Microsoft Office that will cease to have support from October 13, 2020.
As of this date, no updates with new features will be received, nor will security breaches be resolved. The connection to Microsoft services will not be guaranteed either. This obviously applies to all the apps that come into the package such as Word, PowerPoint or Excel.

In this way, Microsoft developers will be able to focus on the new versions that theoretically are the most used by users. But obviously that Microsoft stops supporting this suite of Office 365 applications does not mean that it can no longer be used. You should think that although you will continue to use it to edit content in an active way, security updates and new features will be sacrificed.
Find other office options
The big question anyone can ask is whether to find other alternatives or upgrade to a much newer version of Microsoft’s office suite, which is available. Everything will depend on the use that is going to be given, since if you are a fairly basic user who does not require advanced tools and simply seek to write a plain text without much more history, there is no need to update. If, on the other hand, you require an application that is fully up-to-date and where the security problems that arise are resolved, you must look for alternatives.
If you are within the Apple ecosystem there is a suite of free and alternative applications called iWork . Transferring all your work to this format is quite simple, since with a few clicks you can transfer Word documents to Pages and have an experience very similar to the one you have with Microsoft apps.
But if you don’t want to get out of that work ecosystem, you can always resort to installing Microsoft 365 on the Mac, which is the latest version that is currently available. The only negative that the user can find is the fact of having to spend more money to buy a new license. In exchange, they get the latest updates that are available and that will allow them to continue working at the highest level with the latest functions that they are getting from Microsoft.
