New Star Wars Game Developed by Ubisoft

Lucasfilm is on a roll. After confirming the development of a new Indiana Jones adventure at the hands of Bethesda studio Machinegames, today Ubisoft makes its own confirmed that its Massive Entertainment studios will be in charge of giving life to a new open world adventure from which they can only emerge incredible things.

An open world Star Wars game

Star Wars Game

In what appears to be the end of an exclusive agreement with EA (at the moment they have not confirmed if it has been completely finalized), Lucasfilm has forged new ties with two new giants to continue expanding its universe in the world of video games. Yesterday we knew the news of Indiana Jones, and today the bombing is related to Star Wars , since Ubisoft will be the one to take over to continue increasing the list of titles in the space.

At the moment, little is known. Massive Entertainment has started looking for people for the project, and what has been confirmed is that Julian Gerighty, director of The Division 2 and The Crew, will be the creative director of this new title, which will use the Snowdrop engine, which showed his potential in The Divison 2 .

What plot will it offer us?

One of the biggest unknowns around the game will be the storyline it will offer. Some fans already claim through social networks that it is a game around The Mandalorian, a profile that would fit extremely well in an open world in which a bounty hunter must complete missions and increase his personal arsenal. Will that be the protagonist of the new game?

It is important to mention that neither Lucasfilm nor Massive Entertainment have revealed absolutely anything about the characters or the scenarios in which the game will take place, so for now all are assumptions and pure fanatic speculation.

Will it be connected to the Star Wars story?

Star Wars vice president of strategy and content, James Waugh, has confirmed that although games are not always directly connected to content from other media, there is a possibility that this possible link with the film saga is taken into account, so we will have to wait until you know what they finally decide.

Lucasfilm gets the job done

With these two gigantic announcements, Lucasfilm has confirmed that it is again focused on an industry that it was not getting enough of it. Until now, it had been speculated that EA enjoyed an exclusivity agreement for the next 10 years, but from what we have seen, it seems that the plans are not as many thought. Still, Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed any of this to Wired, so for now it remains anyone’s guess.

Since Disney fired 150 LucasArts employees, game development around the Star Wars license has fallen into the hands of EA, who has failed to make the most of the opportunity it had in its hands. We’ll see if this new movement helps to spark the interest of all those affected.

In the words of Yves Gillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, “We are excited that our studio Massive Entertainment is working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is unlike anything that has been done before.”
