New Announcement in Windows 10 to Enable Edge by Default

Edge Windows 10

The advertising has been, for some time, one of the main problems of Windows 10 . Microsoft is making good use of its new operating system to show users all kinds of advertising: from promoted applications to banners with different types of ads. Some of these ads can be disabled, while others will appear constantly on the PC. And, although it seemed that at the moment the issue of advertising was a bit stopped in Windows 10, it seems that it will return with a new banner: this time on Microsoft’s new browser.

It is not the first time that Microsoft takes advantage of its operating system to promote its own programs. Above all, your web browser. Currently we can see how when we change the default browser, a message appears to use this new browser, as well as a banner in the Windows 10 search engine that invites us to download it. Not counting the shortcut that appears when updating Windows 10 , when the new Edge is automatically installed, and the presentation animation once installed.

Now, Microsoft has introduced a new announcement of Edge in Windows 10. Specifically within the Configuration panel of the operating system.

The Windows Settings menu will recommend us to use Edge

This new announcement replaces the rewards section at the top of the new Windows Settings menu, next to the OneDrive status icon and Windows updates. This new icon appears as ” Web browsing ” and, as long as we do not use Edge as the default browser, it will mark as a warning.

Microsoft will be in charge of trying to convince users who use Edge or Firefox by default to update and make the jump to the new Edge Chromium . Windows 10 will recommend using your new browser by default, claiming that it is better, faster and safer, and will even allow us to restore it as the default browser with one click.

This new ad appears to Windows 10 Home and Pro users who are not joined to a domain.

Unable to disable this ad in Windows 10

For now, it seems, it is not possible to disable this announcement in the latest version of Windows 10 . If Microsoft finally decides to bring it to all users, we will have to swallow and see it every time we open the Settings menu of the operating system. However, there is still a small chance that it may not reach all users.

Apparently, this new banner is nothing more than an experiment that Microsoft is testing within the Insider channel. Only a small group of users, within the DEV Insider channel , are seeing this banner. Therefore, there is a probability, however small, that, in the end, it will only be in one experiment and not finish reaching all.

Is Edge Really That Good?

Internet Explorer did not know how to evolve as the network needed, and the classic Edge did not conquer users either. Is the new Edge Chromiun really that good?

The truth is that this time Microsoft has done a good job: an OpenSource browser, based on Chromium, improving many of the shortcomings of Google’s engine. Broadly speaking, it is a vitaminized Chrome without Google . Everything is synchronized through the Microsoft Account, so our data can be on any operating system.

However, most users have all their data synced with Google , and it is difficult for them to switch browsers. And this is, without a doubt, the main reason why Microsoft will have a hard time making its way into the browser market.
