Nearly half of the world's computers can't upgrade to Windows 11

Windows 11 has been with us for a little over a year, since it was released in early October. However, we now know that the update to this version of the Microsoft operating system has not had the expected result. More than anything, for almost half of the computers in the world have not yet been able to install this latest version.

And it is that, the problems for this version of Windows, came even before it reached the market. More than anything, because it received strong criticism that the minimum requirements of this update demanded more than expected and, therefore, many complained that their devices were practically incompatible and that they would not be able to update . Now, we know that the problem remains the same.

Nearly half of the world's computers can't upgrade to Windows 11

4 out of 10 PCs cannot be upgraded

The compatibility requirements every time we are going to download and install a new version of the operating system are essential. More than anything, because if we do not comply with them, we will not have the option of getting to enjoy it. However, the large amount of criticism that Microsoft received also comes into play here, since they asked for more than necessary: the CPU had to be compatible with TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0.

In this case, with Windows 11 , the limits were in the hardware of the computers. A barrier that many have been able to overcome through different tricks. However, it is not the perfect alternative and less so in the long term.

And after an investigation by Lansweeper, an asset management and network mapping company, it has been verified that 42.76% of the 27 million computers it tested in 60,000 companies, did not pass the CPU test, so they cannot be upgraded to the next version. In total, 71.5% of PCs failed the RAM test and 14.66% the TPM test.

Windows 11 continues to add more users

However, not all of it is bad data. More than anything, because on these same dates, but in 2021, the results were even poorer. Specifically, 57.26% of the computers could not be updated . Although, there is still a lot of work ahead.

According to this same report, we can see how the adoption rate of this version has grown by 1.44%, being just 0.52% in January 2022. In addition, it has been verified that it has managed to surpass Windows 8 in terms of popularity. Although, it is still below Windows 7 .

In addition, Roel Decneut, head of strategy at Lansweeper, has stated that, from his company, they already know that all those who do not have the possibility of moving to Windows 11 will continue to use the previous version of the Microsoft operating system. Among its clients, for example, we can find companies such as Sony, Pepsico, Cerner, MiT, Hilton hotels and others.

The main drawback has been the global supply chain caused by the shortage of chips and processor. For this reason, they assure Lansweeper that, even if these companies wanted to change their computer fleets , it would not be so simple.
