MX Linux 19.3, News and Download of This System

Linux is not difficult. Linux can be as simple as Windows. And, if not, ask MX Linux. MX has become one of the most attractive distros for users, the most consulted in the last 18 months, and gaining more and more interest from users. Your secret? Be a distro based on Debian, like Ubuntu, but taking care of even the smallest detail of it so that it is a fast, secure, stable distro and, above all, similar to Windows. And, with the arrival of the new MX Linux 19.3, the differences with Microsoft‘s operating system are less and less.

The new MX Linux 19.3 is the fourth update within the branch 19 “Ugly Duckling”. This distro offers users an XFCE desktop (light and fast) and a KDE Plasma desktop (powerful, versatile and configurable), introduced in version 19.2, which provide a simple and modern look at the same time.

This operating system copies (and improves) many of the characteristic aspects of the Microsoft system, such as the start menu or the taskbar. In this way, users will have no problems moving from Windows to this Linux and, with a slight learning curve, they will be able to adapt without problems to this new operating system. And win in performance, security and, above all, privacy.

What’s new in MX Linux 19.3

The first thing that this new version has updated are two of the main components of it. On the one hand, we will have the new KDE Plasma 5.15 desktop, in the case of choosing this version, or Xfce 4.14 if we choose the original edition. And on the other hand we will have the Linux Kernel 5.8 . The distro firmware and MESA packages have also been updated to their latest versions (20.1.8 for AHS).

MX is based on Debian. Therefore, taking advantage of the release of this new version, its managers have updated the system base to Debian Buster 10.6 version. And, of course, the latest versions of the main programs that can be found in it have also been included:

  • GIMP 2.10.12
  • Firefox 82
  • VLC 3.0.11
  • Clementine 1.3.1
  • Thunderbird 68.12.0
  • LibreOffice 6.1.5

The MX-apps, configuration applications created especially for this distro, have also been updated. The ones that have received the most changes have been PackageInstaller, which now has the new kernel entries, Installer, which corrected a serious bug when installing other programs on the distro, and Snapshot, which has received a large number of changes and fixes.

Upgrade to MX Linux 19.3

The easiest and fastest way to update to this new version of the MX distro is by using its own MX Updater tool. And if we are more than finished, we can do the same by executing the following command in a console of this distro:

apt dist-upgrade

In case you want to download this new version of the distro, we will be able to do it completely free of charge from its website . The 32-bit version comes with a PAE kernel, which will allow us to use more than 4 GB of RAM, while the 64-bit version can be found in normal format (with an old version of the kernel for greater compatibility) and in AHS format (with the latest kernel available). We simply have to download the distro that we want to use and that best suits our needs, record it to a USB and use it to install this system on our computer.
