How to Mute Instagram Notifications: Stories, Tags, and More

Speaking of social networks, we are sure that we all have that friend who spends 24 hours a day on Instagram uploading photos, stories, tagging us in other publications or sending private messages. If you don’t dare to tell him to stop, today we explain how you can silence each and every one of his notifications on your Instagram account .

How to mute Instagram notifications

Whether you have that friend a little tired with their publications on this social network, or if you simply do not want to hear the sound of notifications from your smartphone every time you receive an update on Instagram, let’s see how we can silence each of these alerts separately. Or we can even block them all at once, although the latter has a “trick”.

Mute Instagram Notifications

The first, and most important, is to access the Instagram notifications section to see which of them we can act on. To do this, whether you have an Android or iOS phone, it is as simple as:

  • Click on the user icon located to the right of the bottom bar to access your profile.
  • Click on the menu with the three lines in the upper right corner and click on the “Settings” option.
  • Once in this new menu, access the “Notifications” option.

It’s that simple to get to the section where we can configure each of the notifications that affect our user account. Now the important thing is to know which sections we are interested in blocking here. This will depend on which of these notifications “bother you the most”. From this menu you can block alerts for:

  • Publications, stories and comments : this is the category that takes the main bulk of the notifications that we can normally receive . Within this we can block those alerts when receiving a like in a photo, a message that we have been tagged in a publication, comments on tagged photos or on our own photos or likes and responses to our own comments. Instagram puts very clear examples very clear so that we correctly identify each of these. Here we can silence each of these alerts completely, or receive only those of those we follow.
  • Accounts that you follow and followers : in this section those notifications referring to follow-ups between Instagram accounts are unified.
  • Direct messages : all those alerts that we can receive from the direct messages of this social network. For example, we may block requests for these messages, requests for groups, or requests for video chats.
  • Live videos and IGTV : this section refers to messages received from live videos such as IGTV publications, both external and personal. If you don’t want to receive an alert every time one of the profiles you follow is live, take a look at these options.
  • From Instagram : if user notifications were not enough, Instagram itself can also send us different alerts to our phone such as news, reminders or logins. If you do not want these to bother you, you can review each of them, although we do recommend that you leave the “Unrecognized logins” active .
  • Email and SMS : in case you hadn’t noticed, this social network has by default our acceptance to send us notifications to our email or via SMS. You can also block them from this section of the notifications section.

These are all the alerts that you will be able to block on your Instagram account. But, at this point, you may be asking yourself several questions: can’t I silence them all at once? What if I only want to block those of a specific user? Well, these issues are clarified below.

How to mute all Instagram notifications

If what you want is to ” mute ” all Instagram alerts at once, this social network is not going to make it easy for us. Keep in mind that they live from the time we spend within their platform and, therefore, all those actions that make it reduce are not to their liking.

If you have paid attention, within the Instagram notifications menu there is a slider to perform this action . The problem is that Instagram only allows us to block them for a period of time and not permanently. But we can do this easily from the settings of our smartphone.

If you have an Android phone , you just have to perform the following steps:

  • Go to “Settings” and access the notifications section of the terminal. If you cannot locate it, in this menu there is a search engine where you can write the word “notifications” to find this section.
  • Once here, locate the list of apps installed on Instagram and click on it to access the options.
  • Now click on the notifications section and, if you don’t want to receive any more, click on “All Instagram notifications” to not receive them again.

In the case that you have an iPhone , the procedure is very similar:

  • Access the iPhone settings and click on the “Notifications” section.
  • Scroll down through the list of installed apps until you locate Instagram. Click on it to view all the options.
  • Once here, as we did in the previous section, if you want to stop receiving each and every one of the alerts from this application, you just have to block them by clicking on the “Allow notifications” slider.

How to mute someone on Instagram

Finally, in the event that you want to silence the notifications of a specific user , you just have to:

  • Mute direct messages by pressing the “i” icon in the upper right corner of them and selecting the corresponding options.
  • Check that you do not have any of the notifications in the new section of the Instagram “bell” active. You can get to this menu from the bell icon in the upper right corner of that user’s profile.
