Multi-PIP, New Firefox Feature to Watch Multiple Videos at the Same Time

Firefox is one of the most widely used web browsers in the world. Specifically, this browser, developed and maintained by Mozilla, ranks third, behind Chrome and the new Edge. Although it is true that Mozilla is not in its best moments, neither philosophically nor financially, the company continues to work very hard to bring its users the best possible web browser. And, in addition to performance and security improvements, the company is still working to offer a number of new features for its browser that could make many users switch to it. And one of the most recent is the arrival of multiple PIP windows .

The PIP mode is a function that the main web browsers have today that allows us to create a floating window with any video and leave it in the foreground, playing the video we were watching (for example, on YouTube) while we continue browsing the Internet. Chromium-based browsers allow us to open only one PIP window at the same time . However, now Mozilla wants to help us so that we can leave two, or more, floating windows at the same time.

Multi-PIP, New Firefox Feature

Enable multiple PIP in Firefox

At the moment, this new function is experimental, so in order to use it we must have Firefox Nightly 84 installed in our browser. If development goes well, when version 84 reaches the stable branch (something that will happen at the end of December 2020), then all users will be able to enjoy this novelty.

Also, it is disabled by default. Therefore, in order to use it, in addition to needing the latest Nightly version of the browser, we will also have to activate its corresponding additional configuration. We will do this by typing in the address bar about: config, and setting the corresponding flag as “True”.

Habilitar multi PIP Firefox Nightly

We restart the browser and that’s it. The new multiple PIP will already be activated in our browser. Now, all we have to do to be able to use this feature is open several tabs with videos, for example, on YouTube. We can click on the open button in floating window in each of them, that is, in PIP mode, and as we will see, each of the videos will open in an independent floating window.

We can move these windows and place them wherever we want. In addition, we can control the playback of each video independently as well.

For the moment, we remember, Firefox, like other browsers, only allow by default to open a floating window. This function is in experimental phase, so it could have errors. It may even happen that Mozilla is not convinced in the end for some reason (for example, performance) and gets rid of it without actually seeing it in the stable version of the browser.

Other changes in Firefox 84

In addition to this multiple PIP, the next Firefox 84 will reach users with a series of very interesting changes. For example, this will be the version that will definitely end with Flash Player support.

If all goes well, Firefox 84 will reach the stable branch of the browser on December 10, 2020. Along with it, the Beta branch will be updated to version 85, and the Nightly branch to 86. And Mozilla will continue with it. development of your browser.
