Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index market analyzes identify key data on Internet performance in countries around the world. In its new report, the results of Movistar, Yoigo, Vodafone and Orange have been updated with respect to the speed we obtain when browsing with mobile data.
Speedtest Global Index rankings are based on average download speed to better reflect the speeds a user is likely to achieve in a market. These have been some of the most interesting data from its latest edition, corresponding to Q1 2022 (January 1, 2022 – March 31, 2022).

Movistar, the fastest in mobile data
Movistar provided the fastest and most consistent mobile experience among Spanish mobile operators during the first quarter of 2022 with an average download speed of 52.44 Mbps, as well as the best consistency score. This is the metric they use to identify networks that provide consistent quality of service. The higher a provider’s consistency score, the more likely a consumer is to enjoy acceptable internet quality and performance. 89.4% of the Movistar results showed at least a minimum download speed of 5 Mbps and a minimum upload speed of 1 Mbps.

- Yoigo: 28.39 Mbps average speed – 81.2% consistency score
- Vodafone: 26.06 Mbps average speed – 80.0% consistency score
Vodafone somewhat removes the thorn from that last place, with data on 5G mobile networks, in which it was the fastest 5G operator in Spain by a wide margin, reaching an average download speed of 192.40 Mbps during the first quarter of 2022.

Orange has managed to position itself at the top of the podium in the lowest latency category, with an average latency result of 28 ms during the first quarter of 2022.

Spain compared to the rest of the world
If we compare the networks of our country with the rest of the world, we are currently in the 55th position of the 142 countries in the report in mobile networks for Internet use. Our average stats reflect an average download speed of 34.26 Mbps across all operators combined. Other rates in this connectivity are 9.46 Mbps average upload and an average latency of 36 ms. The fastest countries with mobile networks, if you are curious, is the United Arab Emirates with 135.35 Mbps average download and Norway with 134.73.

We did improve more in terms of the range of fixed networks. In this statistic we occupy the tenth position within the 182 countries that appear in the report. There we have figures of 136.67 Mbps of average download, 102.27 of average upload and 12 ms of average latency. Here we are only surpassed (from ninth to first place) by China, the United States, Macao, Monaco, Hong Kong, Denmark, Thailand, Chile and Singapore.
