A few days ago we talked about a new Motorola smartphone that aims to become the top of the range of the brand by 2021. We do not know if it will be the Edge 2 or they will receive a new name but what we have just learned about the mobile is that it would release the most curious of all the refresh rates that populate the screens of modern telephones.
Currently, most smartphones come with a high refresh rate display. Most of them choose to support a refresh rate of 90Hz, 120Hz, or even 144Hz, as is the case with Lenovo’s Legion Phone Duel. Motorola also introduced the Motorola Edge, Edge + and Moto G 5G Plus with 90 Hz screens this year and now the brand seems to be making another high-performance phone with a high refresh rate screen.
Refresh rate or 105 Hz
When some of us expected the brand to repeat 90 Hz, or go as high as 120 Hz, new leaks about the company detail that the firm is testing an unusual 105Hz refresh rate mode on the device that the brand will host on top of its catalog next year. This is a quite striking refresh rate, especially if we consider that the refresh rate of our screens is set to a multiple of 30 or 24 to reduce freezing when watching most of the videos.
Despite the rumors, we do not know if Motorola will actually launch a phone with this configuration since 105Hz is not a multiple of 24 or 30. It is likely that Motorola is testing this refresh rate during the development process of the phone and limiting the frequency of upgrade to 90Hz when phone is on the market.
However, something similar was already experienced when ASUS launched the ROG Phone 3 with a 144Hz screen. The leaks of that phone proved that the company tried a 160Hz refresh rate mode before launch but it eventually launched with this curious frequency.
As for other information about this phone, we know that the screen resolution is 2520 × 1080 and the size of it is 6.7 inches. In addition, this device seems to have a 5000 mAh battery and new camera functions that include “audio zoom”, something that already exists at the top of the range of other manufacturers. Of course, the smartphone would run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and the basic version is 128GB of storage space and 8GB of memory.
As is often the case with these devices dated 2021, their release date is not yet known.
