Motorola: How to Fix SIM Card Problems

Our Motorola mobile may experience various types of problem. However, one of the most annoying are those related to the SIM card. When this piece of plastic begins to fail, we may be completely cut off, with what that means. We are going to see therefore the possible causes of the problems with the SIM in Motorola and how to fix them.

Motorola: How to Fix SIM Card Problems

Although physical SIM cards as we know them have their days numbered, they are still essential to keep our voice and data line active. When we have problems with this piece of plastic, it is very possible that we are left without being able to do either one or the other. Let’s see how to fix this problem on Motorola mobiles.

SIM is not recognized

Try to clean the contacts

It is a common cause, but luckily very easy to solve. In this case we will have to remove the SIM and clean the contacts with a slightly damp cloth. Then we dry the card completely and reinsert it to test again.

Are they well inserted?

It is important to look at the position of the cards. Many times the position changes from one Motorola to another . In the quick guide of our terminal we can see how they are entered correctly. We must therefore remove the SIM and check that we have proceeded correctly before looking for other solutions.

Turn off the mobile

If the SIM card cannot be detected, we will see a crossed out card icon in the phone’s status bar . We will have to turn the mobile off and on again. When we turn it on we can establish a new connection to the network, to see if the card is recognized again.

Recognize SIM but no signal

In this case the terminal recognizes the SIM card, but there is no network signal. In this case we will have to do several checks to try to solve it.

  • Move to another area where we can receive a signal, for example, outdoors. If we are unsure whether our operator provides service in that location, we can always review the coverage map on the operator’s website.
  • If airplane mode is activated, we will have to deactivate it.
  • We will check if there is a software update available from Settings / System / System Updates.
  • We will check that the “Preferred network type” is set to Automatic. (Settings> Internet and networks> Mobile network> Preferred network type.) If we have service problems when it is set to “Automatic”, we can try a different configuration.

SIM not activated

It may happen that the operator has provided us with a SIM card that must be activated remotely . We will solve doubts by calling our operator and verifying if the card is operational or not in order to function correctly. If not, it is possible that the problem will be solved in the same call.

If we use DualSIM

If we are using two SIM cards and the problem is only in one of them, or even in both, we will have to go to the Settings of our mobile and enter SIM Cards. Once inside we must verify that we have the two cards activated by means of the corresponding switch.

If nothing works

If none of the above works, we have few options left but we are sure that some will work.

  • Enter safe mode: entering Motorola’s safe mode will allow us to check if an application may be causing a conflict with the SIM card.
  • Try on another mobile: in this case, if we test the SIM on another mobile and it works without a problem, we will know that the fault is not with the card.
  • Factory Reset – This is the last step before you think about physical damage. This method will leave our mobile as the first day at a functional level and we can see if the problem disappears. To do this we will have to follow the following steps.
  1. Charge the battery to 30% or more and turn off the phone.
  2. Press and hold the volume down button and the power button at the same time until the phone turns on.
  3. Press the volume down button until you see Recovery mode and press the power button to restart in recovery mode.
  4. Using the volume buttons, scroll to Wipe data / factory reset and then press the power button to select the option.
  5. Using the volume buttons, scroll to Yes and then press the power button to select the option.
  6. Using the volume buttons, scroll to Reboot system now and then press the power button to select the option.
  7. Wait several minutes for the reboot to complete. If the phone doesn’t finish restarting, press and hold the power button until the screen goes dark, and then release it so it turns on normally.
  • Damaged SIM or tray : in this case, we will have to contact our operator, since the SIM card may be damaged, so we may require a duplicate of it. If we still have problems, it is possible that the internal card reader has been damaged, so in this case we will have to make a visit to the nearest Motorola Technical Service.
