We can say that the processor is the best indication to tell us if we are dealing with a high-end, medium or entry-level mobile. In other technical specifications as well as the price, they can vary depending on the efforts of each manufacturer to integrate more technologies or make the purchase decision more difficult. When a premium mid-range terminal and a high-end terminal meet, sparks fly, as happens when we look closely at the Motorola Edge and the Samsung Galaxy S20.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 were presented in early 2020, while the Motorola Edge arrived in Spain at the beginning of last June. We are facing one of those tessitudes in which the manufacturers put us, with the “pay a little more” or “save as much as possible”. That is why within the purchase options that we have in the market, the Motorola Edge and the Galaxy S20 occupy two privileged positions taking into account their quality / price ratio.
Screens and dimensions
The size of the screens is very different in both terminals. The Motorola Edge reaches a considerable size of 6.7 inches , while the Galaxy S20 is more conservative with its 6.2 inches. However, the S20 has a higher resolution with its AMOLED QHD + panel , compatible with HDR10 + and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. These are technical attributes that the Motorola Edge does not reach, despite having an OLED FullHD + panel and a 90 Hz refresh rate.
There is also quite a difference regarding the weight and thickness of both terminals. The Motorola Edge pays for its big screen and bigger battery with a weight of 188 grams and a considerable thickness of 9.29 millimeters . The Galaxy S20 meanwhile, has a more moderate weight of 163 grams and 7.9 millimeters thick.
Exynos and Snapdragon
When we raise the hood is where we see the great difference between both devices. The Motorola Edge integrates the Snapdragon 765G , a 5G processor that performs well, but is enrolled in the mid-range of Qualcomm. It comes accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage that can be expanded using microSD cards.
For its part, the S20 sports the Exynos 990 , which reaches higher performance levels and comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, also expandable through microSD cards. To get an idea of the power difference between the two devices, we just have to take a look at the results they achieve on AnTuTu. The Motorola Edge has exceeded 305,000 points, while the Galaxy S20 is at levels higher than 525,000 points.
Leftovers in cameras
In the camera section, neither terminal is lame, much less. The Motorola Edge has four cameras, led by a 64-megapixel main sensor , a 16-megapixel wide angle, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and a ToF sensor. Its front camera, housed in the hole in the screen, reaches 25 megapixels.
The Galaxy S20 sports a triple rear camera with a 64-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel wide-angle and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor. Thus, the front sensor, also housed in a hole in the screen, reaches 10 megapixels. In the war of optical zoom, it should be noted that the Motorola Edge has 2X optical zoom and while the Galaxy S20 reaches 3X with optical / hybrid zoom.
More battery but less technology
It is important to note that the greater autonomy is on the side of the Motorola Edge thanks to its 4,500 mAh , which also has 18W fast charge. However, the Galaxy S20 has more advanced technologies in its 4,000 mAh, with 25W charge, wireless charging and reverse charging.
Both terminals have 5G connectivity and other advanced connections such as NFC or Bluetooth 5 . However, many users may be interested to know that only the Motorola Edge has a 3.5mm jack for headphones, something the S20 has lost.
Great price difference
Finally, when taking a look at the prices of both devices, we see a very important difference. Right now we can buy the Motorola Edge for about 549 euros, while the Galaxy S20, despite having dropped in price over the months, still costs around 769 euros. We are facing a difference of 220 euros , which the user must weigh depending on the needs4 and the pocket.
